I've started working on a Q/A session for bots and multiple account rules. Feedback would be appreciated.

FAQ:
Q: Are bots legal to use?
A: No. They give a clear advantage even when not AFK.

Q: Am I allowed to be logged into multiple accounts from the same IP(location)?
A: Yes, however this does mean that these accounts might get checked more often because they stand out.

Q: I am using more than two accounts to transfer items in town. Is this ok?
A: Generally yes, it because a problem when you actively play more than 2 accounts. This includes crafting, hunting and anything else that increases your character’s potential

Q: Tools are legal to use. But what kind of tools can I use?
A: It is ok to use macro’s and simple tools. Ie:
Something that spams your mouse buttons.
Something that helps you craft

Q: When does a tool become a bot?
A: Bots do multiple tasks for you. Not only will it craft for you but also run to the vendor and sell. Not only will it spam a mouse button but it will also move the mouse for you.

Q: Where can I find legal tools?
A: They are everywhere. The best known tool is Windows Click Lock. Other examples are simple clicks which are found on the internet everywhere.

Q: How long am I banned for?
A: Generally we use the 3 strike rule - 7 days, 14 days, 21 days - permanent.

Q: Can I be banned on my character for the actions of another?
A: Yes, if you let other people play on your character YOU are responsible.

Q: Can my main character be held responsible for things I have done on a newbie?
A: Yes, if we find you are a repeat offender destined to try and break the system, we will act.

Q: I am permanently banned. Can I get my character back?
A: No. You have broken the rules too many times.

If I'm asleep and someone else is leveling my char, do you see this something you want in the game compared to someone using a bot while they are at their PC at all times?

As you can see the Q/A is about bots compared to lvling tools and multiple account usage. Not about multi's.

Q: Am I allowed to run multiple accounts?
A: Yes, however there is a limit. We will allow up to two accounts per PC. Any more than that takes the piss.

Is this done by Mac address or IP as i know we have multiple people who play from the same familys

Are GMs interested in addressing other forms of lvling without the owner of the char being there?

I just want to confirm that you are fine with people being AFK and having their char leveled without bots. It would be good to have an official word on this.

in my opinion it is just as bad allowing people to multi char when they are not on as this gives the char a definite advantage over people who don't have anyone to do this.

Ask a few low level friends or guildies who don't have much time to play if they want to take turns leveling the char and going to WoTW events/Sacred Stone and GVW and keep a clock on boss spawns so at least one of them will be online to monopolize bosses. There is also the option of using a proxy and then using a freelance website to pay someone in another country to play the char.

A group will use Skype, they will farm with their low lvls while someone is always on the main multied char by taking turns to play it so it is online nearly 24/7.

Do you believe that multiple people should be allowed to use the same account? I think most respectable players would admit that an account should only be used by its owner.

Again - this Q/A is not about more than one person playing the same account. It's about tools vs bots and one person playing multiple accounts. Your feedback has been heard and noted. I'm not looking to start a discussion about it here at this point in time.

Ok I won't post about this again, but I will say this.

I think nothing in this "discussion" will have an impact on the decision to ban bots (Which I'm personally fine with and will abide by).

I think there will be no future discussions about multis. I think you should just come out and be truthful that you're going to ban bots regardless of what people say and you're going to do nothing about people who multi one account. At least then you would be being honest.

*EDIT* Just saw, Ghostlord PMed "I will add another Q/A part in the near future about multiple characters on one account. Since this is just a concept version I prefer to keep it simple for now. "

Fair enough

Thought we'd be a bit to far into server life for this, wasn't the general rule for bots for almost 2 years (unsure on time) "aslong as your not afk." seems abit unfair how everyone was allowed to use them up til this point.

Q: Am I allowed to be logged into multiple accounts from the same IP(location)?
A: Yes, however this does mean that these accounts might get checked more often because they stand out.

This is extremely easy to bypass using a proxy. Normal services like WTFfast might even do this. Spoofing the MAC address isn't too hard too.

A: Generally yes, it because a problem when you actively play more than 2 accounts. This includes crafting, hunting and anything else that increases your character’s potential

Where do slave healers fit into this? That is, using another PC to heal your char at elfs or other mobs while you hunt. Or say you're hunting but got a craft macro on another PC(I don't craft, this does not affect me).

Lastly, skill mobs in TYT can you define rules that make it clear about what is bannable in the multitude of AFK situations there? Such as having two chars hitting an elf(this is not me saying anything about my recent susp for afking an elf).

It may be easy to bypass but on the other hand the more you need to do the more it will deter people from using. Also the more accounts you play simultaneously the harder it is to act normal or play without a bot. We will still have our personal list of suspects whom we'll check regularly. We hope to expand this list in the future using community help.

A slave healer and a tank is only two accounts. The rule only applies to more than two accounts. Of course the bot rule still applies, for your healer as well. If you must use multiple accounts I would prefer you use them at the same location as a tool (ie a healer who heals at a set location using click lock) rather than doing two things separately at once. We will discuss this further internally if required.

Luring an elf and going afk in a hut is definately bannable.

Doing elves in public places in the towns does provide more leniency than normal situations. This is of course because one can easily click on an elf once and go to make a cup of tea. The same can be said for click lock and heal. This is ok in this situation as long as people use normal tools that do not go for a new target when the current one dies. Of course this has to be done in public places in town so that newbies can benefit from the event gaining con. :)

So if I'm afk with two chars in tyt, one hitting the elf and the other healing but I do it in the middle of town and not in a house I'm not going to be banned?

I wish I'd have known this before, I'm serving 7 days suspension because I lured an elf into the house, I obviously wouldn't have done that if I knew. I would have just done it outside. Could have just PMed me and told me not to do that, 7 days is just excessive.

Also, I know I'm already probably top of the list of "suspects" you look at. This is also a backwards move, having GMs appear beside me and give me an unnaturally short amount of time to respond or I get banned is just not fair.

I choose to be open about the fact I used a bot while always at my PC, singling out people like me just drives us to go anonymous using tools to hide our IPs and computers.

Treating bots the way companies treat pirated software, is just a game of whack-a-mole and it does nothing but make the moaners of the forum(who probably multi anyway) think that something is being effective when truthfully, it just drives people to change the way they play to avoid GMs and makes them NEED multis and NEED bots more tog et their chars back up, it also drives a negative attitude in Soma where players hate the game and don't care about messing it up.
