don't need to read any books from anywhere..to see the cuts in policing..the closure of police stations..the rise in crime.. the youth disaffected with no prospects of decent paid work or owning a home.. see the homeless on the streets in cardboard boxes, begging for food .. the closure of hospitals, waiting lists get longer..old ppl sitting on trolleys in corridors for hours b4 they get seen...the list is pretty endless. but nvm eh.. so brainwashed by greed and capitalism u don't even see it. Nobody proly knows how to 'fix' these things, but a little compassion for your fellow human beings might be a good start,, and that means radical change from the shit atm.
May ur gods forgive you. x
Anyway.. should be a good election.. might throw up some surprises x

Actually, I'm a strong proponent of UBI (universal basic income) and Milton Friedman himself made a very good case for it, as do many other economists that you would doubtless dismiss as having no compassion.

To be honest that attitude sums people like you and your kind of thinking up; 'don't need to read any books from anywhere'.

Maybe if you did read a few more books you wouldn't be so clueless.

You can't interpret what you see without first learning.

By your rationale, you can just take a 10-year-old child and ask him to look at a room and understand that the world is made up of molecules, atoms, subatomic particles and so on and so forth.

You need to read and learn how to interpret what you observe otherwise it is just useless noise as opposed to useful data.

The information that is written in scientific/academic textbooks is generally backed by empirical (experimental) observation ( i.e. 'what you see in front of you') under controlled conditions and then rigorously analyzed using the same methodologies known to work because they underpin the fact that the lights are on in your house and that you're sat in front of a functional computer connected to the internet right now.

We've been doing this for roughly 500 years now - it was called 'The Enlightenment' and propelled us into the 21st century.

Believe it or not your intuitions about the way the world works are almost always entirely incorrect because they have evolved to keep you alive in the macroscopic world of predation and natural disaster, not to perfectly perceive the universe as it is; hence we need to use the scientific method to try and be as intellectually rigorous as possible, putting aside our natural human prejudices/limitations, when trying to determine what constitutes the reality of a situation whether it be in the domain of economics/sociology or physics and the hard sciences.

This is totally economically illiterate - I recommend that you read 'Basic Economics' by Thomas Sowell, one of the first great black economists.

It is an entry level book that can be understood by all. No graphs or mathematics to contend with.

Unlikely you will bother to read that book but if you even make the small effort effort to search any great economist from the Chicago School like Sowell or Milton Friedman etc or even a more left-leaning economist-mathematician, data cruncher like Eric Weinstein on YouTube, who have actually done the work to assess hypothesis with empirical data collection and analysis by statistical methods, rather than speaking typical ideological tosh, it may be you who wakes up.

To paraphrase Mark from Peepshow: 'It is only by the miracle of consumer capitalism that people like you aren't dying in a ditch at 30 with rotten teeth.'

+1 this haha fkn gold

I personally believe that Labours biggest obstacle is having Corbyn as their flagship. All politicians lie, however he has shown to have questionable ties, strong views that run opposed to the majority of the nation reference semitism and terrorist groups and has made many faux pas over the last few years. His indecisiveness over the last year relating to his stance on brexit will have cost his party many votes. He is also a believer in spending less on defence, which in this day and age is very worrying. For all his faults I like Boris solely because he is transparent and has outlined his goal from the start, without pandering for support by trying to appease too many groups.

People believe the lies about Corbyn sympathising with terrorists because they read it on social media. He has a peace prize for a reason and yes there are pictures of him meeting terrorists as he was the only one with the balls to meet them to discuss peace terms. He will reduce the budget on defence.. good as long as we have the trident missiles people won't attack us simple.

Labour are going to pump money into long term projects, council houses that the tax payer owns so rent going back into the pot. More money for NHS+ police only a good thing. Only taxing people over 125k a year more doesn't affect me and anyone I know and they can afford it.

And 800x600, labour actually pay back more to national debt than the tories and get the country back to recovery, only reason it went up before the tories as there was a GLOBAL recession caused by the American banks, of course the government had to bail out the banks pushing the debt up. Could be worse you could still fancy voting a government that put in austerity 10 years ago and still TRIPLED the debt. Wheres all the money saved from killing the disabled and elderly gone? .. oh the top 5% have still got richer :)

Let me start by just clarifying I'm not stumping for any party here - only a rational view of Economics.

By every single metric (GDP, infant mortality, life expectancy etc) in statistical 'studies of studies' global poverty has decreased enormously over the past 25 years - you only have to Google this to find the hundreds of meta-analysis studies that have been done by various economists.

Yes, rich people have gotten richer at a faster rate than poor people i.e there is an equality gap but the poor people are still much better off than they were and categorically have not gotten poorer and that is global.

Secondly this idea that somehow taxing people that earn over 125k (or wherever you want to set the bar for 'too rich') brings in more money for public services is economic nonsense. High taxes damage the economy because guess what?

1. Rich people are better at moving their money around.
2. The people who own businesses or work in businesses that are paying these kinds of salaries to their employees are the backbone of the economy - all private pensions etc are tied up in the stocks and therefore the success of these companies.

If you tank the economy by confiscating wealth everybody will be worse off for that.

This socialist/communist idea of the government confiscating the means of production has been tried over and over again and it has been a total disaster every time, everywhere it has been tried.

With all that said let me state that I'm not some ideological Ayn Rand Libertarian; I believe in a social safety net and that has to be paid for by taxes but please try and read at least a little basic economic theory before you take such an ardent view.

Also, the idea that if we have Trident nobody will attack us is one of the most absurd and uninformed statements that I have ever heard. You're essentially limiting our military options to we destroy a country with a nuclear warhead or we do nothing to act whatsoever in national conflicts which is patently ridiculous and you're totally ignoring domestic terrorism among the many other threats that the country faces.

But screenshots were also sent of Tom admitting buying tabs for £5 apc on WhatsApp but as its not concrete proof and just "banter" he can't be banned.
