[Question] Keeping Dex as close to STR as possible

Author Content Date
Dex gains are based on STR of the target mob or my own STR?

I heard several times that DEX is faster(relatively) if your dex is the same as your STR? But how can this be?

If I was pure axe and had say 35 DEX and 80 STR, surely i'm getting a lot of XP for DEX since the mob i'm able to kill is giving me a lot more DEX XP?

If I allow STR to go way way above my DEX, how does that make DEX slower?

I just need to better understand what is actually happening. I don't know if I should switch weapons or not.

The closer your str to dex, you get dex in less % then if you had higher str. A higher level can confirm this (Over 100 str). Style is your best bet to ask he has the exact numbers.

But isnt that because those two chars would be different levels and leveling different weapons?

If a char had 100str and 30 dex and another char had 30str and 30dex, the amount of XP needed for that .1 DEX is exactly the same for both?

and you'd think the guy with 100 Str doing more damage (more % per hit) would gain the dex faster!?

I often thought about this as my dex is slightly higher than my str atm, and im tempted to get some STR to speed up my dex a bit.

I don't know about all this, I don't trust it for a second. However I also never really cared about this as you need dex pretty badly. o.o

I believe it's based on the monsters str, for example wraith str is 64 you have 63 str 40 dex, you will gain dex at a better rate if you were say 65 str 40 dex.

meaning the closer your str and dex are together the more benefits you will get out of a monster,
so yes you could have 80str 35dex or whatever you said and hunt a mob with 90 str and still gain decentish dex but with such a low hit rate it will be unbearabley slow,

-50 -30 -10 str are the slow downs i think, say you have 50 str and you are hunting a mob with 100 str this is where you will get better gains.

Don't take my word 100% but from browisng the forum this is the theory i have came up with :P.

Exactly what hxw said, if you hit a str slow on a mob then Dex slows also , so either move up a mob and do Dex or don't let str get too high compared to Dex if your higher level and blg is the only mob you can hunt

This.

Finito confirmed all these numbers for slowdowns: -50, -30, -10 and +10. I have even confirmed and tested all these numbers myself.

All very interesting. So if my str is over 10 below a mob or 10 above a mob the str/dex will be slower until i come within 10 str of the mob?

So what you're saying is that as long as I hunt a mob within 10str, even if I have 1000str and 20 dex the dex gains will be "normal"(except the mob would give tons of xp).

This basically means if you use a pure dex weapon you can get good stat gains on lower lvl mobs for longer because the stats are spread well between str and dex?

Maybe im not getting it right, but hasnt this thread just proved that it doesnt matter what your str is compared to your dex, what matters is only your str and the mobs str?

It doesn't matter the gap as far as gains go untill you hit the str slowdown at blg, however try not to keep a huge gap trying to hunt monsters with low dex is a pain in the arse.

If you are set on getting away with doing as little dex as possible i would advise you to check the "defensive dex" of the monster you are hunting and aiming for that before you move onto them, also if you are planning on doing as little dex as possible i would advise going axe/bow with low dex you're going to need Perfect defense aura.

EDIT: Didn't realise you are a devil?

This is exactly it. You'll notice screen shots Finito posted of Devils Level 100 as pure bow have more INT than Axe/Sword etc. because they get better gains for longer due to lower STR (on DSoma all stats are based on STR of the mob, including INT; but it's different for mages, unless they punch).

This isn't my main account, I just use this for the forum.

I am thinking of simply going pure bow or knuckle now instead, since i'll be able to stay on lower mobs for longer and find it easier to hunt mobs around my str and getting the most out of my gains.

You said "until you hit the str slowdown at blg", does something change at that point?

There is no other mob after blg meaning once you hit the slowdowns on them you have no more mobs to get faster stats.

Damn blg are the highest STR mob in hsoma? That sucks :(, oh well at least I have what I need now, thank you very much for the info.

I'm thinking of either pure bow or pure knuckle now, although I cant decide between the two. Considering knuckle is 150%dex 50% str it would seem the logical choice as that falls in line with how dex increases at half the rate of str. I also heard knuckle 3rd/5th gives stats too.
