Welcome to the Western Continental Castle Region


"With the small armies of the continent successfully repelling the Negamare and confining it to its own ice world, the people drew relief and the little order that Pandemonium and Thousand Year Town had, resumed.

Farms began to flourish and the savageness of despair and hunger began to relent, the cost of war easing. Various warlords came to be, before being succeeded, or rather, overthrown. Thuggery and rivalry increased. Taverns sold foul ale. Business became "as usual".

An uneventful time passed before an explosion rocked the Castle's regions, followed by a earth quake and smoke. Long since the main continental armies had disbanded for inactivity, the King sends for warriors that will pledge loyalty by way of exploring the goings on and act accordingly. It falls to you, brother."





Hi all,

Pleased to say that after around 80 hours of design, this map is ready for use - it isn't however in game.. I want to outwardly say that this was initially a Devil map... but it seems overwhelmingly wanting to be a mixed race map. It just really comes down to what the map will be used for. (more on that below).

This is the layout of the map (I don't have a mini map for it right now and the editor doesn't show it fully or as nice as it should).


(Note this picture does not show models used in the map). And for a idea of scale this is probably 1/3 the size of TYT and 1/4 the size of Pandemonium. Its 250x180 (width/height)


DESIGN

Its designed to be linked from a door in Continental castle (warping you to the NE part of the map). With a one or two way portal to/from Conti map in the south west (spawning you in the NW of Conti map). This is meant to be an actual extension of the real Soma world but restrictive enough with the use of channels and a restrictive movement layer between areas to be good for a "Hoarde map" / Survival mode. Yet still easily flexible enough to be used as a normal leveling map or something else altogether. I would expect it to be a level 100+ or even higher zone.

Depending on the game mode the map is used for, its set on "a mixture of disturbed and tranquil" farmlands and cliffs. With several land marks, and a general theme of it linking to the Castle map (swamps, castle walls and buildings). Devils are currently fortifying the area in the north west and creating a staging post to deal with what seems to be frequent attacks on the western castle walls by monsters. The map is restricted on movement in certain areas and cliff faces to stop "gaming mobs" or giving bow such outright advantages, that's not to say bow isn't going to be useful though. The map reaches a climatic area in the south east, where the land has tore itself apart.

Suggested/Recommended NPCS :-

Town Cryers :- By order of the King, those strong enough must leave for the Castle and enter the Western region to investigate!

Behind barricade (Devil) - 114x20 "Tiggz" - *Shreaking* You... you just missed the last surge. It...won't...be...ll..long now. *Tiggz closes his eyes, looking completely freaked out!*

Behind Castle Wall (Human) :- 142x40 "Percy" - Monsters is one thing but bringing lava for the ride...? THis castle is ruined.

Staging Area (Devil) :- 36x8 "Kisadya" - Take what you need! And give them 'our own' meaning of hell!

Staging Area (Devil) :- 20x15 "Zalerik" - We've been getting ready for some time now and wanted to make this place more like HOME - what'd ya think?! Shri would be proud! Hey maybe we could steal the human's fountain on the next raid, I got a spot right here !

Fenced of Woodland (Human) :- 109x167 "Harold" - "This wood is safe! As long as I wield my axe!"

Warded Farm area (Heavenly) - 147x119 "Altetaar" :- "Don't look so surprised, we are not interfering. Death and destruction is your choice. Pass through at will but you cannot disturb this area or animals!"

-- The map now resides with the VT group and GM's. Please vote to give a indication if this is something you would want in the game and what it should be used for.

I don't think there's any kind of ETA for a major release cap or anything.
Wouldn't want to wait 6 months or so lol
I'm not a patient man xD

But very good work, on a serious note I would rather it come in with content update so that maybe a whole new host of mobs/weps can be done prior to going in, that's for both worlds too. As it's a massive incentive to go to wotw!

Would def like to see it ingame

Tho id like to see it used for both races lvl120+, so possibly would need linking up somewhere diff to conti castle map, the maps got that many different elements that it could be linked up quite easy imo

Brilliant, I know this took many hours and the dedication is second to none.
The map looks great, I love the whole idea of a new land on the west of conti on the opposite side of the castle.

As far as game modes, I’m really open to anything from a new hunting ground or with some element of race v race.
I think with its prominent location it could be a great extension to WoW in some way shape or form.

or even the possibility of both human and devil working together on this map to defeat the common monster enemy.

or race v race taking points across the map, I’m not 100% sure on exactly what would be best suited. but I absolutely want this in the game, a new map is just what's needed atm to rejuvenate UC, i think the argument of UC being somehow degraded with even more map space is a mute one. The UC will increase, yes this may mean players spread across the maps, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing.

natural progression of the game could lead players here or i could be for everyone, however its chosen it’s a good idea.

love to see an element of RPG come back into soma, the narrative was a key part of soma and I think that’s something that has been brushed over in recent years.

Amazing work bro , a mixed race map would be nice, maybe if you own conti the drops are doubled in that area but the opposing race can still hunt etc

Thanks all for the feedback and great to see it so well received. We had 23 responses to both questions.

Q1. 21 out of 23 wanted to see it added to the server
Q2. 18 out of 23 wanted to see it as a Levelling / Exploration area, 3 out of 23 wanted it as a new game mode and the 2 remaining just didn't think it should be added as per question Q1 (it sucked).

Survey will remain open so please tell your friends and ex players about it to have their say..

Either way, though I have designated NPCs and designed something and created a theme, its plainly obvious it probably needs to be rolled into something bigger and have matching new content etc. So there may be a lull before anything is done with this map ( I hope not that long either, believe me).

I can tell you though, I have been asked to make another map ^^

As is its a mix of terrains i.e;- Thousand Year Tree Town & Pandemonium Town Area
maybe Negamare has opened a portal and the dimension inside has started melding
with the current Dimension or something along those lines, Negamare was trapped inside
his ice Prison/cave to stop the dimensions colliding and once a month or so the barrier weakens sufficiently to
reopen the portal between dimensions and Negamare's generals ( Gorshak , Dionaea and Tiresias) make an attempt to free him from his prison.

Anyone care to elaborate a bit more?
