Advice regarding "The grind"

I don't know about everyone else but i have very happy memories of Soma, from Guild hunts to finding certain items, surviving mobs, surviving pkers and so on.

These days i feel like soma has become little but a grind at times, hit the cap, gear up, pvp, the end.
So this question is to the guys who enjoy PvE and community things mainly, What makes you carry on hunting, carry on logging in and being happy to just play the game for what it is?

I feel like Nega became too easy too fast.... anyone else? I was watching videos of gorshak's first appearance, I was there it was great and it became a great memory, everything seems to be about pk now or items, i'm fine with it btw, I'm just looking for advice on how to make the game more enjoyable without pk fights being the end goal because i'll simply never compete anyway.

One of the things i currently do if i'm feeling burnt out by the grind is write down a few mobs around my chars stats and a list of items and sort of make it a quest, I know it isn't good for stats but it keeps the boredom at bay, I dunno about anyone else but does anyone else feel like there isn't enough variety post shanis, maybe blg.

an alternative mob with drop lists instead of boars with an alternative drop list and slightly less/more dex and less/more dmg output or something? same goes with trolls, in the early levels which is skipped pretty fast it always feels like you can use several different mobs.

Sorry for the rant i know some guys will be like if you want a game that isn't lvl up gear up pvp go elsewhere but soma wasn't always about that, does anyone else have quirky games or ideas they use to stave off boredom?

Also like to add the work the GM's and everyone has put in is phenomenal and it's an amazing thing to see soma still running and improving year on year.

At times I think we all reach a point we’re we feel bored/burnt out etc but one thing I’ve always found with Soma is....

There is always something to do.

Collect mats for the time you feel like crafting, farming items, get a group and create a guild/friend hunt etc Do quest’s for a change the list is endless :)

I farmed different mobs for drops to give away in competition’s I’ve held and I always made sure the prizes were decent to reward those that took part.

Don’t forget there are two worlds to bring you even greater journeys in Soma, both sides of the community are friendly, helpful and always happy to give advice etc to anyone that needs.

If you know you wont really do PVP/PK/GVW then your stats are only really relative to friendly duels, and the monsters you fight. That means a blind set won't really be useful for you or max proc gear but slow sets, and less popular things will be. I guess the value there is creativity, the freedom to ignore "critical" types of gear like accuracy and even evasion, means you have a good bargaining position for buying less popular item types and upgrades.

Sometimes I'm surprised at how useful certain upgrades are,which have just been forgotten from Esoma or side lined. how old max +5 proc sets are cheap as chips but are still great. So there's the freedom to be inventive which is pretty good. People just need to be willing to risk their materials a little more to remember what they are or do some decent Googling.

That and variety is key. As you know the training path beyond a certain point for magic and melee is a singular way but it does mean your not bogged down as other characters who are driving for near-on perfect stats. So you don't have to leave or go to certain monsters like most characters, you can, for example, stay at Palus/Devil Fish a lot lot longer, a far more enjoyable monster compared to say... beast lord guardian and they give a nice variety of drops. So you can take a lot of enjoyment from knowing your not tied to that same direction for a lot longer than most. And yet your interests will be different too - in training better and more efficiently once you get to things like boars and trolls and Magma Beasts. It has to be in making your gear by way of crafting or trading for it, by getting items that people value as highly as possible but at same time being prepared to to just go do something else, is really important to act out. It just makes it more enjoyable and fun.

If you still are a bit caring about your stats then don't shy away from hunting in freemode so you can get the items/gear you want too. Theres no rush to cap especially in PvE, just make it the journey, you want it to be.

That said, yes there should/could be more monsters at BLG and beyond for "optional" build /play types but I dont think the GM's really see that as they don't play the game, unfortunately...A lot of things are sadly... glazed over as a result.

I use to run regular dungeon runs and go on my own when it suits me too and the reason for doing that is because on the way there, its always different, its not grind, you dont know what you will find or what will drop, even if you feather through all of Dungeon 2, and hit all the boxes in a form of speed run, theres a infinate form of mystery in that map and even Dungeon 4. More enjoyable as well because its something you can entirely do solo and get a drop worth going for.

I guess though no matter what, it does literally come down to becoming a bit of a time waster, watching TV or doing other things whilst grinding something and so taking the game for what it is and nothing more. In fairness there are neigh on daily events to take part in that are not grindbased but they are however/PvP/RvR. But completing quests as though they are a mission (not dailies) are a part of it, as are many things if your inventive enough.

Another thing that people also do is, they have one farm character (lets call it, something you have got bored off levelling) and create something totally different, and then use your farm character to build the gear your newbie could really do with to get over a "tough" spot in the game. That helps too.

Hopefully the next new game mode will be neither... :)

Try dsoma, lot more variety of what to hunt and when, you can hold stats back, do daily quests and respec to try different ideas of builds, and it's a lot faster levelling than hsoma for those of us who dont have the time to commit due to kids/jobs/social life

I will agree with the nega comment though,it went from complete teamwork taking 20+mins to a small group being able to drop it in 5
Granted full teams aren't always achievable so there had to be a balance

I break my time up with usually two hours levelling then an hour hunting for drops / questing. It keeps the game fresh and usually means I get at least 1 decent drop a day and finish a quest every couple of days.
