A new GameMaster

Author Content Date
Hello all,

Please see below from discord.

iSylver08/30/2020
Can do the same for the forum too with more mods and advisors
But to clear I see no need for more GMs

I'm of the opinion that more than anything this game needs a new GM.

For clarity, I don't believe we need a GM for events/handing out donations items or anything that can be abused.

Some small examples:

PK mode has been off for longer than it was off for the event.

Personal/homophobic/racist insults in global chat are normal.

A GM / ingame moderator online ingame also PREVENTS a lot of the drama involved ingame.

Again, these are only small examples, I could list more but won't.

Curious what you all think.

Cheers.

Corleone

EDIT: Perhaps GM is the wrong word to use. More of an ingame moderator.

a select few players should have the option to enable pk mode but once they enter command it takes 24 hours to switch, chat ban people only upto 6 hours. the players who have this should not be known to others so they dont get harrassed into doing stuff. maybe be able to launch a preset command that only works once a week between 12 and 8 on a sunday? that would spawn a few bosses in different maps. (maybe use the ss subroutine?) to spawn 10 random bosses.

Don't need any new gm's... uc isn't huge....
Dan n Fin done fine up to now on their own....
Dan can moderate forums and do events when he sees fit.. np there
Soma is running well technically speaking..all is good...
Just need some more stuff to do.... not '' endgame'' ..wtf does that mean anyway ...if its endgame.. then whats the point playing... we need more stuff to do.

Maybe Isylver has irl probs... busy or whatever.. but he aint gonna give gm rights to ppl he don't kno 100%...can't blame him for that.
Have to wait till gm's have time and inclination to move things on...
Otherwise.. can't be many ppl totally geared and can't find something to do. Enjoy what's here and hopefully we get more.
There is a loyal player base here, still playing and others waiting for more to bring them back.. the big question is... do the gm's wanna move soma forward? There's a good game here with loads of potential with a bit of work... so... up to the gm/s i guess.
Here's hoping x

perhaps u missed the bit where they dont need gm powers? its simple to make it where only those select things work.

its always the same shit coming from you. never happy. yes the game needs more content etc but people do have lives. creating all new content is hard and very time consuming, maybe make some new armour / wep skins yourself to speed up the process?

there is a layout for quests on the forum also. make new quests and send them in.

with regards to abusive shouts, Perhaps an in game global vote system, where a player can propose a vote to silence other characters for a set amount of time, which is voted on by all online is possible. similar to other games where votes are held to kick players from groups etc.

This is Isylver and Finito's game... make no mistake... pretenders to the throne will not be admitted on the whim of a few requests.. thankfully...
Just wait and see... more game or not more game, that is the question

You think a new gm is in order with all the corruption in soma? Certain players buying chars and items for real money. A new gm could flood the game with +8 items they have had a backhander for or spawn bosses for mates etc. -1

To be fair Corleone, I hear your concerns but If Isylver has already stated he isnt down with a new GM/Mod, then there wont be one.

That's a fair point.

However this is just a discussion and I am interested in what the community think.

again, just because the person is a mod/adviser doesn't mean they have any actual powers. just simple ones that will give QoL to players. As stated like chat suspend and stop/start pk with a delay and a pre-coded command that only works once at a certain time.

+1 to more GM activity (via a new GM and maybe 2-3 in game advisors via diff timezones).

A GM and lesser so, advisors, water and feed the community, they should love the game and encourage people into all aspects off it as well as talk about it.

They are, through lack of other means, the binding agent for all parts of the community, the crafters, the neutrals, the lonewolfs, the guild leaders, pkers and alliance members. All of which are important to feel included in the community, if you want it to thrive. Rather than allowing it to polarise into <person type A> or <person type b>. Its important that they like and listen to all corners. And look to new ways/updated methods to keep it that way.

Its not that they need to be able to create items or spawn monsters but be a centrifuge for creativity and picking up of common issues, that and you need "chatmins" powers (chat admins). They should understand the game, its mechanics as well as the original ones and be able to take part in grown up discussions with veteran players and other GMs. Without displacing any of the current team. The ability to /rain would be nice and even place players in the sinbin (the dummies SE of TYT).

Its also really important to acknowledge that the game hasnt gone forward since Esoma, there are no new graphical assets to show players the game has a storyline thats been played out or new ones being laid out. Its been so long that long term capped people wont be able to comprehend not having to farm or creating beefs with others. A big reason why Mir maintains a steady population on its main servers.

Although people may have seen my work recently, I can name a dozen others that would line up to contribute to the game but there doesnt seem to be any kind of grand plan or cohesiveness to make it seem worthwhile. Something a new GM could bring to the table.

In the end, its iSylver and Finitos choice, though I believe there is a mentality of it being a 'pserver' than what it always really always was, a community game. It being the only known server out there, means its taken the baton on from Esoma, making it more important. Anyway, we will take the horse to water.

All sounds a lot of work but not if you enjoy what you do.
