Ideas to try revive the server.

So with the introduction of horde mode the server was busy for a couple of weeks. This was brilliant and I really enjoyed the few horde’s I could attend.

Unfortunately with the soma player base we bore easily and it seems this has already happened. So I’ve thought of a couple of tweaks and idea which might help with the user count and also make soma more enjoyable for people at the end game.

1. Horde mode to only spawn that race’s mobs. I go on Dsoma more at the moment and if we get a round full of hsoma mobs then it’s easy and we fly through it. On the other hand if I’m on hsoma and get Dsoma mobs, I can’t hit them with their high dex and they absolutely ruin my pots.

2. Scale the event so that if 2-3-4 players want to enter then they get reduced mobs to face, otherwise it solely relies on big groups and obviously the vicious circle has already started, if you don’t have big numbers people don’t bother going and horde becomes a dead event.

3. A new farming mob, not only would this encourage more trading and bring items to the economy, it would also bring life into pvp and end game content.

I would say have two spawns across two maps, that way you can’t be forced to stay in town and not hunt without using immunity.

Drops for these mobs would have to be clear of any junk like elders and mags currently are.

Provisional list of drops;

Titus
Ancient
Nega weaps
Mag frags
Mystical frags
Frogs / herbs / LL
Macabre / lore / virtue
Small gems
Necro sting’s
Valk studs
Vafer stud
OE
FP
RDT / DT / ToW

Smaller barr drops of say 2-4K so that you’d still need to craft or hunt mags for your barr towards valour weaps.

4. Some repeatable quests for valour scrolls, this would still make gaining valour possible for those that haven’t given up on horde or still want to progress.

5. Ghost upgrade, this is a big one but I and many others feel this would retain a lot of players and would even bring players back. We’ve mentioned this idea on several occasions and had little to no input from GM’s as to feedback for it. But honestly, you’ve just put a lot of effort into horde mode and it must be a kick in the teeth to see that nobody bothers to attend anymore because all they do is break their weapons or armor at +3 and then quit. Atleast with ghost upgrades everyone is a winner and you don’t have a low UC game.

1 - It was obvious that humans would be at a disadvantage against devil mobs than devils against human mobs. Surprised it wasn’t tested fully beforehand opposite race mobs each wave to test the difficulties of other race mobs.

Make the hoard free for everyone then you might just see an increase even with players willing to go as support characters (healers, slowers, etc)

Players trying to level there uncapped character in there 1 or 2 hours of game time ain’t going to waste there precious time pissing about doing dailies for the hoard event.

I’ll say it again, it was the wrong decision to stop valour scrolls from dropping from normal mobs even at a lower rate, it just pushed more players away.

2 - agree with a scaling percentage for less attending.

3 - not sure a new farming mob is needed, just drops need addressing from top mobs, but I would add saviour shields to that list though.

4 - agree.

5 - speak with Finito, he was in favour of the ghost upgrade at the time of the discussion on the anvil update, I’m sure he would be willing to discuss his thoughts on it.

Personally not a fan of it, but if it helps those that still play soma then I will do the right thing by voting for it.

Rather than ghost.. give anythin that goes to +8 .. a free +3. Could do it the way the anvil was 'upgraded' last time, by collecting life particles to trade in for valour ... or just upgrade the anvil without any fuss..
and yes.. valour needs to drop from mobs.. just make it mobs that you gain stats from.and ofc not loads of em.. just enough to add a bit of zing to hunting.
Oh, and could cut down the required amount of kills etc for the daylies.. make a them a bit less time consuming.
And.. when there's a level cap + .. ( with the stat gains re-adjusted, so not as much % per .1 )..yes a new farming mob.. and a new tier of weps, inbetween nega and valour, that actually drops from the new mobs.

A lot of what you say there is bang on Raven.

I do worry about mobs dropping valour still, that opens up the door for chars going in freemode and rinsing low level mobs while under the pk range which imo isn’t a good idea. With the fixes to horde mode and being able to do it with smaller numbers instead of needing 20 players to make it worthwhile will be better for valour drops. What a lot of people forget is that there is still many ways to get valour, CTF, crystal runs, boss drops, holding a stone at wotw and quests.

Apologises it was only a rough list of items I think should drop, saviours sheild is ofc a good shout.

A lot of people managed to get 450 scrolls with horde, they all made epic weaps and broke them, now you don’t see those players online anymore, it would be more beneficial to have a +5 weap which is maybe only +3/4 but atleast it’s still alive to keep trying to upgrade it.

Obviously this is my opinion but lots has been mentioned in discord saying ‘if ghost was in I’d return’.

Lupi, all making +3 100% is make it worse when it breaks going +4. Back to the same situation of free+2. It won’t work as we all know the soma community always wants more.

i see the attraction of the ghosting..but first u get a +5 outta 8 .. then a +6 outta 8 etc....and won't be long before eevry1 eventually get a +8 outta 8 with 0 risk of failure...
every1 will have the same items in a short period of time.. botting palus/df will go thro the roof as will cost of di's...Not in favour of ghosting tbh.... just my opinion
has to be some element of risk/failure
at least a guaranteed +3 gives u a serviceable item, until u make better

You’ve already got perfect +8’s in game everywhere. What’s to say making it easier for the casuals is a bad thing?

There’s people who have other commitments than soma who stop at +2 and never go higher because they haven’t got the time to get a back up.

i got 0 lol ..im borrowing a +5 stinger atm and borrowing armour
my fault i kno.. but have 0
and making guaranteed +3's will make it easier for all... ghosting will ruin the economy and make every1 the same..item wise..cant you see that?

You’re talking in years to come yes, but as always, we get new armor, new weapons, new tabs etc. so when it gets to the point the majority have good gear another tier comes and then people start again, it’s all part of the cycle.

So to say we’ll all have the same stuff isn’t true. Because by the time the casual gets to upgrading champ armor with double tabs, there might a new armor which they go straight into and skip champion all together. Or the higher levels start to sell their champion armor to fund their new armor.

It’s a win win, it boosts the economy and brings people back to play.

You’ve already seen it, the amount of Eva and accu being sold recently since people have made champ armor is only helping the lower levels who didn’t have maxed out armor and now they do.

every .. almost.. one will be waltzing round with +8 valour weps before another greater weapon arrives.. and will be a massive shortage of di's ( apart from the botters )

Surely the gm’s could implement that valour scrolls won’t drop in freemode from normal mobs so that players still have a chance of getting them while there levelling there character?

I understand that for some players out there they can’t play soma without cheating sad but no matter what ideas, countermeasures gm’s put in place the sad fact is these cheating bastards will still try and find some way to cheat.

I will never understand the point of cheating, if you can’t be arsed to play fair and enjoy the challenges a game presents you to have some fun, enjoyment etc then why the feck do you even play games in the first place....

Cheaters are the scourge and complete feck wits of the gaming world.

As someone who came back to see what trials of valor was about I capped Eac got to 253 str and it was mindless, also did 6 levels on flawless. Did loads of quests and trials. Got an epic valor wep and then snapped it straight away.

The thought of doing that has just put me off playing again, so I’ll be gone for a while but some thoughts.

1) something is needed to make upgrading less harsh. Only people who play soma play for nostalgia so all 30+ I imagine a game has no right being this harsh.

I’ve thought about ghost being good. But maybe some tokens through questing that give you 100% are untradable. 2/3 for a char. Once used on an item that item can’t be traded

2) trials should be like nega. Do a load of crystals which ever world does them gets the trials. That way you KNOW people are attending.

3) needs to be loads more repeatable quests to balance the rng out. Can spend a week hunting and not get anything.
