"BIGBERT""The only viable way to eradicate bots mostly (not fully) is severe punishments of deleted char and items with across al IPs that have access to that char, it would involve peer pressure from mates telling them not to bot and it would stop account sharing somewhat, sure the botters might never come back but who cares?, good riddance."

it is possible to read a pc's motherboard, cpu and gpu's unique serial numbers and to then ban based in these numbers..............

Or even that, you lose the peer pressure of acting accordingly but that's another way sure. :)

"SB99"On the botting topic, what's the suggestion to combat botting then? Just ban the cheaters does not and will never work. Hunting on soma is boring. That's why botting is the user count atm. If you think about it the user count is mostly 30-40 year olds which means job, wife/husband, kids and not a lot of time. The most logical thing to help and involve them is to give them a chance against the people with nothing but 3/4 chars on at once botting 247 purely playing soma for financial profit.

My suggestion is to allow people the option to hunt on equal terms on PVE map with a smaller drop rate. Map would consist of leveling path etc etc. Other maps pvp enabled, better drops/ drop rate, can bot on them but no immunity, policed by community. This stops botters reporting botters for botting to the gms who waste anytime they have dealing with this.

Making mats more accessible helps the normal guy but ultimately benefits the crafting botters more.

What's the difference between giving everyone a bot and giving everyone a capped char with stat allocation? It's a terrible suggestion you wouldn't buy a game from the shop and then put it into auto complete mode and leave it, what would be the point?

I don't think you understand that the game has people botting and people pay for pilots ( level their char for cash)

IP addresses can be hidden very easily and the rest of your points are wishful thinking. This will fix nothing.

Game needs realistic goals. Riot games use this kind of thing for valorant. Soma is not valorant.

Whilst I agree that it's very hard to prevent botting and exploits when there are, and always will be people hell bent on finding some way to get one up on whatever measures are put in place, I really don't think distributing an official sanctioned bot is the way forward.

What's the point of the game after that? It just becomes an idle afk style game. Why log on for anything outside of structured events? I mean, why would you choose to farm vafers for two hours of your evening when you can let your bot just crack on all night (outside of minor interactions for repairs and other admin).

It would probably make a huge difference if there was the presence of some in game bot policing. Some trusted people who have limited gm powers (ie invisible command and limited monster spawn capabilities) and are able to observe and challenge potential botters during the act, then be able to actually do / recommended something about it. It would only take a handful of big hits to have a drastic impact on prevalence of usage.

Sanctioned botting might be the worst suggestion I’ve seen on this forum to date.

You’d be much better off just making rates significantly faster, increasing drops by a lot, bring in ghost upgrades and ban blatant botting and cheating.

I wasn’t going to post but my opinion was asked for and will try to be as constructive as possible.

Naturally over 10 years we’ve all grown up and life has moved on for all of us and it’s shown that GMs and players don’t have the time they had “back in the day” to sink hours into soma. Due to this it’s resulted in seldom updates and new found ways to essentially prevent playing (botting, purchasing etc).

Aside from all that the biggest deterrent to me spending time on soma is the why? I’d spend day after day logging on to abuse, passive aggression and dealing with let’s face it avoidable squabbles. This got tiring and demotivating as there was no time to focus on the thing we wanted to do (work on the game and have fun with it). I can only assume players ask the same question “why would I spend time on this away from my family/other games”.

I’ve learnt a hell of a lot about leadership, resilience and (although you may disagree) self reflection from this game. I think a couple of spotty teenagers haven’t done bad in the grand scheme of things 😅.

Like Fin, I agree we’ve tried our best to improve soma yet keep it close to some sort of path respectful to the original. And my god we’ve made mistakes along the way! (I really wish we nerfed speed upgrades further from the get go).

In terms of next steps for soma, my suggestion would be to:

- find ways to remove the grind further to remove the need for bots, cheating etc. Make it much more accessible for players alike.

- improve the defence to attack ratios. Take some of the edge off of the valour weapons the right way e.g via new defense led upgrades that make a difference or a rapid fix would be better armour.

- add MD/MA as it’s own stat as to free up special slots for mages and allow more dynamic builds

- add a new set of auras that gives more benefit to other weapons to remove the concept of “myth of bows” whilst simultaneously reducing damage over distance further.

- find a way to increase level and stat caps without it becoming myth of clones (admittedly I’m not sold on the options of reverting slowdowns)

- add the fun back to soma. I believe soma has lost some of its fun. I remember the first gorshak (although players found a way to abuse it very rapidly) and the reaction there - it being the first boss with any form of basic logic / player response. It’d be great to bring some of that fun / excitement and surprise back.

- trials of valour - build it further, this was only a starting point and the logic created around this enables things like party dungeons and instances/pets/dynamic events. The whole plan for ToV aside from survival was to give more reasons to attend outside of valour including repeatable quests.

What I would say is a wipe wouldn’t solve anything, and I don’t believe is something that should be remotely entertained if we have less time now then a wipe of any kind would actually just take up that time.

I also don’t believe a GM run council is the best of ideas. Unless players can genuinely remove their own bias it becomes very one sided and the players not in the council would rightly feel unheard.

This game is/has been a joy to work on. It’s got me personally through some very tough times and still does and for complete transparency I never thought we’d make it 10 years so that should be celebrated also.

Ps. Wrote this whilst doing the night feed so apologies if there’s a tonne of errors

Wow would be amazing if all this was the aim and i think would bring a lotnpeople back.

Billy came up with a good idea reducing the 2.5x (250) skill bonus as its so huge with val wep to something like 100 but i think this fixes val dmg without messing with it to much. But then maybe a slight buff to eberything below val weps could be cool as these will suffer.

I agree removing the difficulty and grind of soma is the only way to remove the “black market” and bots. Also making things like ToV and bosses i.e things you cant bot to be the big reward things.

But if your not a fan of the whooe council thing there needs to be a way to discuss changes with the community for big changes.

Its good to see you post on this thread iSylver, very interesting and for me the biggest things I take from Both Finito and iSylver post’s are that you can see the love and passion that you both still have for our game soma.

I know it’s not easy to admit mistakes where made so this was good to see from both of you.

10 years this server has been going, yes mistakes have been made but they can be fixed. It’s never too late, we all seem to be in agreement that the speeds of weapon are OP it’s broken the game at periods of this server and only you 2 have the power to help. I would seriously consider wiping these machine gun weapons revert them back to original state and cap ss to 5 and not 8 upgrades and cap recoils for each type of weapon.

all sounds good .. will probably take some time to sort that lot out..

how bout for quick qol changes... remove the craft cap, increase mats..and speed up the crafting somewhat..

con could be speeded up for new players..though most of the uc is now capped or done their con..

could introduce free int to 100 ..again most of the uc have surpassed 100 so it won't affect them

maybe introduce the ghost method for the anvil.. or just give it a boost if possible..

Some qols could proly be done very quickly, whilst waiting for the more complicated stuff..

Neverthless, Isylvers vision for the future, sounds like serious improvements and will add some zing to what atm feels like endgame..

Re: Micky's above/below post .. i'm still of the opinion, all this would be much better implemented with a server rewind. It wouldn't be a step back, just changing things for the better to move forward in the future..

Anyway, nice to see gm input and know that you're both still committed to the game in whatever guise it may move forward.

If I may add a few suggestions from a casual lvl 85.

Free rested to lvl 100 - Unless you can fix the need to be bow to 151 str for optimal stats can we speed this process up by having rested to 100 so we can actually level with the weps we like.

Con is fine as it is imo, it hasn't put me off. The bugs are more than suitable for making con easy enough along with the recalculation function in this server.

Healing to 100 int should be sped up dramatically like 2-3 days max, it's an unnecessary hassle.

Give us a story line, even if it takes over a year to implement just take your time and give us a story line have a group of npcs in a specific area that we can keep going to for a story line of quests, the reason i say bunch them in an area is because they will just get lost in the quest log otherwise.

Update the POS shop, the hall of honors is great but other than flexing POS has no use really.

not keen on pos .. so open to abuse as it stands

it's like marking ur own homework.. pointless

maybe get pos for killing x amount of mobs.. or some for every boss you kill ..that kinda thing
not killing ur own characters.. that's laughable, or dependent on whether u have friends or ur own characters at rvr events

"ISYLVER"Like Fin, I agree we’ve tried our best to improve soma yet keep it close to some sort of path respectful to the original. And my god we’ve made mistakes along the way! (I really wish we nerfed speed upgrades further from the get go).

ISylver I hope you don’t take what I’m asking the wrong way I genuinely don’t mean to offend, upset or piss you off.
For the last many years maybe since stinger tier weapons come out and players were creating these machine gun weapons 400-420 recoil the subject of dealing with recoils has been brought up by majority of players and gm’s but nothing happened.

Psycho xbow tier came out and still nothing on recoil.

Nega tier came out, and you increased the recoils slightly but it was brought up that all players would do was ss them and that’s what happened.

The evidence was there and yet again brought up just before the valour weapons came out that players would still go down the route of ss them and all you do was increase the recoils slightly again.

The majority of things over the years I have believed what you and Finito have posted, but I’m having trouble believing you on this matter on the recoils.

Between the 2 of you, you have the controls of this ship, you have had time and time again to deal with one of the biggest issues on soma weapon recoil, but have for whatever reason chosen to do very little.

You can chose if an upgrade item can upgrade 5 times or 8 times, you can set a limit on how fast each weapon can reach, you can reset items back to there original state, you can return lost, broken items.

I guess my question really is why won’t you deal with this, you know it’s a problem within soma?

No offence taken. Sorry I should have been more specific when I was talking about the beginning of the server admittedly we halved the speed increase that toe/ss would give. Check an esoma DB to see the original values. Captain hindsight would have changed them to a fix value rather than a percentage decrease.

As for ToV weapons I hope you don’t mind me saying that they were shared early including the calculations that a player could get with SS and speed upgrades. Admittedly we could go further and that doesn’t need to effectively wait until a new series of weapons. E.g you could add a delay on top of the ms or counteract with other upgrades that would be more viable.

There seems to be some misconception where I’m playing innocent? Hell no! We’ve made a few mistakes collectively and there’s probably too many to list. However, we’ve also progressed the game on much further than we ever thought we would.

I’d always take soma for what it is. A couple of people who are passionate about the game and have tried their best to keep it going. I truly feel soma would have died out a long time ago without this server and more so Finito.

there’s a long list of things we’d fix if we ever started again but I think I’m aligned with fin in that that’s not an option for us. However, I’m nothing but welcoming of the newer servers that are in development. Regardless of any rivalries anyone wanting to keep the game going is doing the right thing.

Also probably worth me saying. My skills are not as advanced as fin. Changing existing items (in storage/linked to tag system) and recalculating speeds is inherently out of my arsenal. Give me some crayons and I’m all good. Lua too, learnt the hard way and I’m sure fin won’t mind me saying that ToV was primarily my efforts with a little bit of commonsensical code reviews from fin 😅

Appreciate the quick reply, and glad you didn’t take offence I sincerely don’t mean any. I have no idea on speeds back in esoma, we never had recoil show on weapons only way we knew they had increased was if the letter changed ie D to C, C to B etc.

There is absolutely no question regarding what you and Finito have improved over the years over the old soma we all fell in love with, it’s right here on this server for everyone to enjoy and see. I wish more players from esoma would found us and give it a try.

It just seems regarding recoil that every time you had an opportunity to slow the speeds down you just haven’t gone far enough to stop this machine gun stupidity that has happened within soma. It really need looking at and addressing ASAP. I don’t want to see this game suffer anymore than it has. The UC is at its lowest, honest players are being accused of cheating, botting on a daily basis because the real cheats have gone unpunished. We need you iSylver and Finito, your the only people that can sort this out.
