Any scope for the addition of a new server? Keeping existing one online, but a 2nd server to play with a fresh start. Not sure from a technical POV how difficult that would be or the cost implications but certainly some of the most fun in Soma is when every is starting from a level playing field - problem at the moment is there's so much variation.

Would be great to have a fresh server with level 100 cap on again with some of the nicer tweaks / edits added that you guys have made over the years.

Just my 2cents.

a new server is what's needed and wanted..
you could keep this server going..but everyone knows this one would die a death almost overnight

new server.. back to basics.. slow it all down levelling wise.. relax the anvil.. more drops.. make some common sense improvements... have craft cap increased from 450... no news on that issue which was gona be 'considered'.

duno if it's just me...but everything now is centred around tov......

would be nice to see Soma return... with levels, stats, kill mobs and get drops...

take it to lev 100 cap to start and make some more thoughtful ways of taking it forward that don't spoil the balance of things... double tabs/ valour weps are just insane and surely that must be obvious..

gm's must know this ... not sure why the reluctance to admit things have gone a bit pear shaped, and just do the right thing
Finito has said things have gone a bit pear shaped.. but the fixes whilst welcome.. aren't doing anything meaningful in a way that's either fast enough or getting players enthusiasm boosted to play again ( in a polite way ofc )

A new start... for everyone.. new. old and inbetweenies..there would be a new start buzz.
Gotta be better than the stale state of things atm.

anyway.. can only say the same thing 100x
maybe 1 day
cu then

x

@finito

despite all the work and changes you make... all, no doubt with good intentions and design....

the game has become such a mish mash of new stuff. some good, some implemented carelessly.. there will be ppl moaning about this.. moaning about that

your fixes will never satisfy everyone

A new start, however, would be a good place to start.
Busy server, ppl keen to play, excitement and the urge to start again.

Say no more.

Pretty sure a busy uc is attractive to the gm's.
1 way to do it.

No shame in changing your mind or doing something different.

No point in having a brain if you can't change your mind.

Good luck whatever happens.

It's quite an assumption that a new server would be busy, Loopy. A small handful of people seem to think it's a good idea and it's hard not to see most people just leaving after the first week or two.

Besides, you would just cap on there and start doing your Craig David impression all over again.

no idea who craig david is....

cba googling it

and ye i believe a new start is what's needed... could be wrong... don't think so

ps

noticed that you always diss the server wipe idea

considering your an ex- player .. with no real reason to care...

have you got a current active player with bought gear?

just a question.... take no offence..

asking for honesty might be a different matter

I'm not an ex-player, Loopy. Nor have I bought gear. It's super awesome that you care, though.

Unlike you, when I stop playing I don't hang around on the forums posting almost incomprehensible gibberish about rewinds.

I "diss" the server wipe idea because it's a terrible idea, with little thought behind it. All the people who want it have vastly different ideas about what it would entail and most would end up unhappy about how it was implemented. It tickles peoples nostalgia because starting Soma was fun 20 years ago, that's it.

It's honestly laughable that anyone thinks a slow rate server would be popular these days - but here you are.

Speed of a server is an illusion, 3D.

Ultimately you are still clicking mobs for the same length of time per day whether at the cap or at level 10.

The crux is the return or perceived return in the form of drops.

It always amused me when people moaned about slow servers then dumped 3000 hours into a faster one, where quite frankly you do the same thing in both situations.

Some have put more hours into this server than esoma, which is great but was esoma less enjoyable due to its speed? Personally I don’t think so, you had less stats, but really all that was different was the weapon skin and mob skins, everything else is moot really when we click them regardless for 8 hours a day.

I mean... that's nonsense.

People ultimately play games like this for character advancement, the brain giving you a metaphorical pat on the back when a number ticks up or indirectly ticks up with something shiny dropping.

Sitting clicking on something for an hour to get that pat on back isn't worth the bother for most. You might not agree but there's a reason every single slow rate server has struggled to ever even get into double digit population.

Sure, you're ultimately doing the same thing but to say both offer the same experience is just not true.

problem here is you can cap in 10-12 weeks.. the game is over, except for tov and ridiculous big blue weapons

esoma, and even this server in its 1st year or 2 was about being in a guild... taking your time, having time to chat, some player interaction... trading... and a goal to aim for..

after capping... gm's bending to requests for quicker levelling, rested, double tabs wtf are they..... apart from rendering levelling up almost meaningless unless u have the wonga to pay for op accessories and gear......

seriously.....

gm's know there have been some imbalanced things brought in....

they can tweak and try to re-balance all they like...
you can't take away what people have made, bought, botted or paid for..
hence the latest change of weapon nerfing was reduced...
only way is a full rewind...

the sooner it happens the better
everyone knows it's the only sensible way to go
gm's included

Longing for the day when......

My point is getting an SP at level 50 to get a lvl 3 spell is just as rewarding as getting a drop at level 100. Being at a higher level is meaningless really when everyone else is at the same level, the drops and interactions with people are the important part.

Although you are correct on different experiences, I had far more fun levelling to 100 than farming Mags.

As someone nowhere near cap and playing through this server for the first time, the scaling on rates needs adjusting imo and the early weapons/armour need spreading out more. I kinda get it that no one wants to spend weeks on trolls but the rate in which you clear through a lot of the early content is way too fast and means a lot of wasted items. It becomes pointless to hunt for certain bits of gear or complete a lot of quests because within half an hour you’ve already surpassed that tier.

That and a revision to how people can obtain weapons in the tier after Apus/HoM etc. - after LBs nothing drops anywhere near as often and other than handouts it’s really difficult to obtain these weapons as they don’t drop enough from mobs you’re hunting, don’t drop from mini bosses, or are dropped by big bosses which are far too hard to kill at the level you would use them.

Armour/weapon drops could be more interesting in general pre upgrade - I.e if they followed the prefix/suffix style that a lot of games have nowadays to drop with additional effects (extra speed, str/dex+, defence, crit etc.) - seemingly most people upgrade weapons with speed anyway so having these other orange stats wouldn’t harm weapon upgrades.

Probably a controversial one but any physical damage interrupting casting feels too punishing and is exacerbated by the ridiculously high speed weapons or having multiple mobs attacking you. If there were a few skill interrupts, or a chance to be interrupted / an interrupt proc effect instead it would feel less annoying as a mage.

I’m sure it would require a massive amount of work but some additional active skills that don’t share a cool-down with other weapon skills would make the combat more active. Especially if standard mobs did things other than just basic attacks.
