Paying monthly has been suggested before, most people would pay but there is too much legal bollocks in the way to make it happen... But an optional monthly donation is a possible grey area I suppose? GM?

Pay monthly will not help the server in anyway.

Soma will last years to come but growth needs to happen to make this even a bigger success story, charging people isn't going to help with growth, I hope I'm right in saying we're most likely all adults playing, it should be us putting money into the server, to help with future improvements.

Course there be some that don't donate but that's fair we didn't sign up to this server to pay for it. But we all should put our hands in our pockets once a month or two a 5er here or there will help a huge amount.

The easiest/best way is the donation store.

More non game changing things to be able to buy. The following are all ideas from previous forum posts or whatsapp.

1) donation for getting rid of old quest items (e.g people stuck with fortune tickets)
2) donation for swapping old items to new ones (pills of dread/devastation/pumpkin/bloodstained blade)
3) donation for reskilling and losing skill.

None of the above are game breaking, and would generate a big influx of income.

Other ideas...

A donation target meter. For example it was mentioned a mass email would cost £90. So a £90 donation target that's easily visible.

The last point, and I fully appreciate you all have full time jobs. But it's a catch 22 if you ask me. But we need some kind of updates thread from Isylver/Finito.
Players won't donate unless they see content updates, GM's won't work on content unless they see donations.
Doesn't have to be and strict time targets. It just needs a thread sticky with a list of "pipelined" ideas.

Just my 0.2.

True.

Another great idea would be pay X amount to lose all/certain amount of skill in a certain craft. I'm currently on 130 armour, 70 access/weapon and 122 cooking but if I chose to get 150 armour (Which i want) I'll have to lose a SR as it's pretty much impossible to keep all SR's now.

Anything to do with skill locking would be amazing.

Picking up on Style's point I don't think GM's are driven by donations really. Thy've said before the amount of time they put in is dictated by the amount of free time they have, and what the comminity is like at the time.

Donations are a good way of showing we all appreciate their work though. I like the idea of the donation target thing as well, for things like sending out marketing emails or the like.

Does anyone know how much it costs to make your website a sponsored link on google, so when someone searches for 'mmorpg' or something, it comes up at the top or right hand side? I think that would be the best way of attracting new players to the game. Chances are 9 out of ten people will think they've been warped back to 1995 looking at the graphics etc, but if one in ten sticks around then it'll be worth it.

Sending out mass emails with recent updates, upcoming events and updates in the pipeline will bring players back.

dont wanna spoil the fun and great ideas to attract more players, but soma aint really supported for a large community ..

already people are complaining that from time to time it is hard to hunt at certain places when there are 4/5 people already hunting there. Imagine what this would be when 50-60 people need to hunt there.

Most important thing at the moment would be to keep the current players or try get some players back who left soma cause they had nothing left to do when they capped level 100 or cause it was getting too boring. Added quests are great job ... make some repeatable after a month maybe? New content for level 100 chars only?

=> No need to waste a lot of money advertising soma. Someone who comes from world of warcraft and starts soma will get a heartattack and have no clue what to do :o. Every player need to try get friends to play soma and help them out getting started etc.

I don't think any form of advertising would attract a massive influx of new players. If it attracted, say, 30 new players that'd be a very good use of money I think.

That on top of attracting older players back would put the usercount in rude health.

It will survive as it is, and it will be fun for those of us that do play, but I think we'd all like to see a few more players around, an extra 50 players would be great.

As for content for level 100's, I think the quests are a great idea and will take quite a while to work their way through the ones worth doing. Already you can see the difference in the reduction in the amount of pking going on, because people have other stuff they can do.

I disagree with this post. More players is always good and can always be catered for by just changing spawn size, add additional spawns in other maps in place of monsters that just aren't hunted; there are a fair few that could be reduced/removed (Look at scale raps spawn that was reduced to increase DF I think it was?)

Google adwords costs £25 to begin with an vouchers are available so you get £75 worth of clicks for that £25.

I'd be happy to donate quite a large amount if there was a definite future of the server. A thread with at least weekly updates on what is happening. One that only gm's can post in so it doesn't get spammed.

If we had that I would gladly pay for that mass email or google adwords right now. What I'm not going to do is donate a few hundred to a server that could theoretically close in 2015 without much notice.
