are you suggesting keeping both normal defence and magic defence plus the upgrade? Or removing physical defence ?

Finito mentioned that the work required would take a very long time to implement.

We've also established that we don't want to put in so much work for something like this.

Itesm can only have a single special attribute on them although one of those can have three sub attributes but they are defined in a static table and are not stored as part of item data (each time character item data is loaded it will set the sub attributes from the static table).

There isn't any space in the current item data format to have an additional special attribute. So to add more the item data format has to change. Everything would then need changing to use the new format.

The item upgrade system in its current state cannot even use the special attribute that can have three sub attributes. So that could be changed and then somehow would need to put into the static table all possible combinations for magic defense + some other special attribute and select the correct one as a possible way to workaround needing to change the item data format.

It would be a lot easier to change magic defense into a main stat on items like defense / attack is. There is currently unused space in the item data format for that IIRC (unless I already used it for something else). But then still need to change all the item tooltips, item upgrade system, and anything else that uses the magic defense special attribute including updating all old items.

So I do not see this happening anytime soon (unless overlooking something that will make it easy).
