Pure knuckle is no longer viable

Author Content Date
It's a shame pure knuckle isn't a viable option anymore. I actually wanted to use Knuckle this time, but the only question that stood before that was "Why set myself at a greater disadvantage?".

I'm never in favour of game changing nerfs, rather I'd see counter-balancing updates to other elements of the game, strengthening weaker areas, attributes and equipment.

Is there anywhere you can read specifics on why each nerf was set, massive elevation to stat requirements etc?

I'm a 90 skill HSoma knuckler and agree it's becoming a bit of a slog. I felt I had to go axe to get the extra strength, to be able to have the extra defence that was needed to hunt harder mobs.

I've tried the various dex armours, dex rings and dodging and my evasion doesn't seem good. I feel I get far better benefits wearing the str armours instead.

My aim starting with knuckle was that I could go right the way through to 120+ skill. It seems like this is hard to achieve atm, unless you want to hunt mobs that are lower than you should be hunting.

same boat - 90skill/60dex

Both have slowed to a point that I'm having to stay at wraiths for quite a while longer - probably until dex at 67 for disp armor - which at the current rate of .1/.2 per hr max is going to take about a week or two.

Already started axe for str - strongly considering bow for dex also.

That's really bad and almost removes the freedom, individuality and choice Soma once offered. I didn't want to go Axe+Bow or Sword+Bow again, but kept hearing about nerfs which completely threw me off wanting to try something I felt would be fun.

That's a shame. This server is so well put together, with some very nice features, but some of the changes/nerfs are confusing.

Thought I'd do a bit of resurrection :P

Done a bit of hunting this evening to test gains at Bone Golems, and will be doing the same at DW's to compare.

Stats at 62dex, 70str.

Currently, Bone Golems are not viable.

Downtime due to healing between each golem cripples gains - 53mins(2.78%) for dex, 101mins(5.24%) for str - only one that is semi-reasonable is skill - 1.15% (22mins).

Definitely lacking survivabiity - 2 golems require 2/3 +50 pots, that's assuming you don't get interrupted by a spiked beast which means running - they take 1/3hp nearly per bit hit.

Last time I was at DW's couldn't take more than 2 at a time, so I suspect gains wont be much superior but will update when I have solid figures.

Also spent time at work killing wraiths all day also - good 5 hours playtime, gained maybe .4Str/Dex and 3.0-4.0 skill.

If I use axe at wraiths - last time I did that .1str was definitely <30-45mins

Keep in mind that dex gains are entirely based on strength values. Thus the closer your str value is to your dex the easier it is going to be to hunt.

Yes you will be at monsters longer (look at the pure bow chinese characters) but that's a sacrifice to make if you want to keep those values as close as possible.

Do you mean DEX gains are faster if your STR is lower? Sorry I didn't know this and would love to see a little more info on how DEX is calculated.

This is about pure knuckle. It is clear to everyone that pure knuckle is not viable.

With pure knuckle, how exactly do we keep our str close to our dex? We can not influence gains as we are a pure weap.

Pure nux is not viable and therefore we are forced to pick up another weap. I myself picked up spear for str.

Something needs a change. Most nux I have spoke. To are seriously considering changing to bow for easier dex gains by cliffing.

But that's ridiculous, and tbh I can't see that at all from my time levelling as knux.

When my strength was at 65, my dex was at 55-56.

All while levelling the str outpaced the dex dramatically - at one point there was 11.0 between them (at around 44str) - at which point I did a bit of bow to get it closer to about 5-6 gap - but even then dex never kept up with str gaining more than dex.

The only point where dex started to gain on str was 65+ - and even then it didn't speed up, strength just slowed down to a silly pace.
