Some thoughts about future changes that would, without question, bring back old players, and perhaps attract new players.

- Loot changes
Drops go straight into a characters inventory, rather than on the ground where you may/may not be able to reach them. Also change it from complete luck of the draw in whoever gets the last hit on a boss, to a % chance of receiving the drop if you're within x range of the boss. This would encourage teamwork by meaning not everyone would be fixed on attacking the boss, others could be focused on healing tanks, or slowing the mob. I feel this would open up some more possibilities with how groups approached bosses.
To stop people from running random chars to the boss and standing there doing nothing, you could set it so only those that have either attacked the boss, or have healed chars that are damaging the boss have a chance of receiving the drop.

- Instances/raids
This has been mentioned before, and Dan even said it was something they were working on, but I guess it's fallen by the wayside. I think there is a huge potential for raids in Soma. Effectively something like D4 whereby once every x hours/days a map is open, but instead of everyone going to the map and a pk battle ensues with people moaning and the other guild getting everything, make it so the map is fixed for each guild. So NM get a map, DL get a map, BK get one etc. That way it guarantees each guild will get a drop, everyone is happy. It encourages teamwork within the guild, which from experience is the most fun & entertaining thing about Soma. The map could involve a kind of gauntlet with sub bosses, leading to a main boss.

- Magic casting no longer interrupted by being hit with melee attacks
Now that melee characters have caught up with mages in terms of damage, it no longer makes sense that mages can be completely nullified by one character with good dex and a fast bow just from them clicking on you once. I believe being hit by melee should perhaps slow the casting, but to stop it completely is far too OP, and makes mages irrelevant and useless.

Feedback welcome.

I think at very least, monster attacks should not interrupt magic. Would open up the ability to train int on other monsters.

Loot system change would be awesome. Would make me attend bosses more if I had more chance of getting a drop, the current system is kind of a monopoly of the highest levels getting the drops because of their damage. You could say they deserve it because of the time they have put in but I don't agree they get other benefits for being high level.

On someone like gorshak where it takes a lot of time to kill would be nice if everyone there got an item, couple people get a weapon maybe a couple more get a half decent item and the rest could just get something small. Even a 5-10% rested would be worth while going to make up for the time you could have been training.

Could make it so every hit on gorshak you gain abit of rested ?

Good post mr satan
