What does soma mean to you?

- How did you hear about soma?
My brother used to watch Game network all the time and bought soma when it was first released. As a family I we only had 1 computer, which I wasn't bothered about as I had my chipped playstation and was buying games for £2 apc lol. I always went into the computer room and sit down and speak to my brother, but really I was annoying him saying what is that shitty game your playing? it looks crap. I used to get him to the point he used to chase me out threatening to beat me up lol. This went on everyday for about a year, until one day he said just try it. I made 3 different accounts as you used to get 30days free trial and made 3 different characters and roughly got them all to level 20ish as it was so fukin slow. All of a suddent I was in-love with the game, but there was problems. I could not play my own account. There was a problem with game network, they would not let you use the same debit card for 2 different accounts and we could not understand why my account would never let me play it so I had to make my own character on my brothers account, which this caused loads of arguments. We had to take turns every 2hours, which both of us never wanted to log off. I felt sorry for my mother having to put up with all this.. Eventually my brother got bored and went to lineage 2 and finally got his own computer! I kept playing soma and I was then in my element.

When I played my first private server, which I think was Alphaomega server (badgers server)I quit esoma as I loved the fast rates. I did not log into esoma for 2years.

I always remember a day I skived off school to get gold armour at trolls. Said I was really ill and smashed strength for 12hours straight just to get 63str! This was on esoma..

I love soma, always have, always will, just missing having the time to smash them hours in 15-18hours per day (yes I was sad) lols. But family comes first now we are all grown up!

I was introduced to Soma when I was roughly 14 by one of the older kids on the estate. I had a real rough childhood and Soma was my perfect escape. I would spend near on all of my time on it and got absolutely nowhere with my character. Level 31 I think was my highest, 10 con, skills in every weapon, hunting all the wrong things. Back then I didn't care about stats or being the strongest, I just played it to have fun and feel like I belonged somewhere. Which I did.

Over the years I have suffered massively with depression, alcoholism and drug addiction. In my darkest moments I would YouTube the TYT music and just listen to that untill my mind and body finally gave up and fell asleep. The feeling it gave me took me back to the place I escaped to when I was a kid.

I've tried coming back over the years on and off but it was never the same. This time though with this server, it really does feel like that community is back again. For that I just thank all the players who still play now and the devs for giving up their time to create new content and update and moderate regularly.

I'm a lot better now and that life is behind me but from a 14 year old boy to a 29 year old man Soma has always been there in one form or another. I love and am so grateful that this game and community is still thriving.

I hope this never changes.

I met a nice man ( edit..2 very nice men ) in a coffee shop 4 n half years ago.. we chatted bout pc games..he told me soma was alive and kicking. I came home, d/loaded it... saw ppl running round in full hero and stinger bows... and err 15k hours playtime later .. hoping for more!!

Seems to be a common theme of ppl with addictive personalities here. That's a tribute to Soma that it is a ''thing of addictive beauty''
( should come with a health warning .. tho.. its a safer ( and cheaper ) thing to be addicted to, than the usual stuff ) :P

First of all coconuts what a story lol. Almost made me cry irl :/ I too lost my father at early age and to have something like this to keep him in memory ... epic story!!!!!!!!

- How did you hear about soma?

A rl friend of me was playing eSoma since start. He (char was named Shalaam i think) was one of the founders of Rebirth guild and got me into playing Soma and helped me out with any information i needed.

Soma to me is pure nostalgie but also my time to relax after a day of work and when kids are in bed :) It's a small community but we all know eachother.

- Any ways soma has helped you?

Maybe it helped me in being a social person / teamplayer / leader. I was leader of Sylver guild on Esoma and a lot of things i did there helped me irl also.

- Any great stories you've had in regards to soma?

Tbh I only remember the sad stories like ripping titus helms at +5 and intense hero rings at +5 ><

I'll be honest... pretty sure Game network used to show babestation after 10pm, I left it on that channel one night next day woke up and it was showing Legend of Mir show followed by Soma. I chose soma.

- What does it mean to you?

An escape for a couple hours from the wife and my army of children

- Where does it fit in your life?

Normally a few hours in around work, childcare , pub related sports and football

- Any ways soma has helped you?

Erm, I can type really fast now with a decent level of accuracy and I've met a few decent people from it over the years

- Any great stories you've had in regards to soma?

Wouldn't say great. I met Knutsel ( the non pilot original one ) for a few pints. He's really short and can only handle about 3 pints

I heard about Soma through my younger brother who had started to play ESoma upon its launch. I started to play soon after. Back then I thought it was amazing. I was genuinely taken aback by it though admittedly I had not played any other MMORPGs! I went off to uni and couldn't get the game past the uni firewalls! So I sort of played intermittently e.g. when at home during holidays. I was attracted to the magic and so played primarily as a mage-type human. I played an awful lot, far too much really. I remember stalking Inwhang literally for months and then when I finally got him soon after Slither decreased the time between spawns! I gathered a huge amount of frogs through killing stiges whilst tracing Inwhang every 10 minutes. I was able to buy the diamonds I needed for level 4 spells and a full -p bone set!

I remember making it my mission to kill Bless at every opportunity. She killed me a lot during my lower levels and I never forgot it so as I levelled I made it my mission to trace her regularly and kill her. If I heard she was killing in Merc I'd drop everything and go there just to kill her lol. Occasionally she was annoyed enough to respond, I savoured those moments the most ;)

I was quite annoyed when Soma finally died. Annoyed that anybody could be so childish as to bother killing off something that brought enjoyment to so many. It was a pathetic waste. So, I kept an eye on new server developments and eventually came to this server.

Soma to me is about nostalgia. The community was and still is very close-knit. It's almost like a secret between a select group of people which of course is both a blessing and a curse. However; I have met some really nice people on Soma and it's the community spirit that draws me to it. Admittedly there are better graphics, better storylines, better quests, better action etc on many other games but replicating the tight community of Soma, held together through shared nostalgia is impossible.

Since I played so much ESoma I promised myself I would play this server less so. I do limit my time here but I still enjoy it. And actually it has now become better than ESoma, in some ways.

- How did you hear about soma?
From one of my best friends who I am still friends with today he no longer plays soma though but he introduced me to some my first mmorpg I had ever played.
- What does it mean to you?
It meant a lot to me because my friend who introduced me also gave me this crappy pc at the time to play it on I can remember being so excited as a kid and I remember walking round to the corner shop with my splash plastic card(I think that’s what it was called) so I was able to get game time I remember the excitement of playing my first mmorpg something that would have a big impact on my life
- Where does it fit in your life?
These days I don’t play loads of some or loads of games to be honest just because of life but I come back to soma time and time again it’s an old friend that will never be forgotten.
- Any ways soma has helped you?
Not really it helped me meet some great people and create some great memories though.
- Any great stories you'
I always remember my first character on esoma and I started playing with my friend who introduced me to the game he was already way ahead of me and I admired his character thought it was amazing in his banded armour as time passed though I ended up overtaking him and have a slightly better character to what he was not best pleased about and ended up logging on my character and griefing my stats because he was jealous we laugh about it now but at the time I was really guttered.

- How did you hear about soma?

One of the E Soma massive all those years back. When my parents got sky I wanted it for one specific reason: Game Network. I remember the first few days we had Sky I had a marathon watching and I came across the Soma program. The next thing I badgered for was a Broadband connection 😂😂😂

(Oh and £10 for my SplashPlastic 😂😂)
- What does it mean to you?

I think like others, it's a reminder of childhood. I was about 13/14 When I started playing, I didn't have a brilliant character, intact I think at server close I only got to level 48 with crap Str/Dex and even crapper HP and Con. Ultimately it gave me something to do. It was my reward and ultimately an escape from a very crap childhood where I was bullied, I spent most of year 10 in isolation because I didn't want to socialise. I had some great friends through Guilds I joined and ultimately guilds I created. It also allowed me to meet a good friend whom I'm still in touch with today.

It also gave me and my cousin something to do at weekends after I introduced him to it.

- Where does it fit in your life?

After finding this server and after a break I rediscovered soma again a few months ago after getting that 'feeling' again. I don't always get to spend hours on end on it, tending to play it on my little netbook on my break at work or when the Mrs and Kids are at school/work and I use it as 'me time' I have quite a stressful career (I work for West Midlands Ambulance Service as an Emergency Ambulance Technician) responding to 999 calls and often helping people in their most vulnerable time, it's alot of driving as well! I look forward to my break where again, I can just enjoy hunting and levelling untill I go back out again.

- Any ways soma has helped you?

As above really. Soma signifies me time. And between work, my Mrs and 3 Step Children it gives me something I can truly enjoy.

- Any great stories you've had in regards to soma?

Mainly what I've heard on here really. One of the best stories has to be the GMs doing this free and in their own time. It's a rare kindness you don't see very much of anymore!!

- How did you hear about soma?
Gamenetwork I was watching something about 11:50pm one night and the tv was still on from the night before..

- What does it mean to you?
Soma means I can act like a total fuking warrior but in fact I still live in my mums basement on the doll and he only pussy I’ve ever seen was from gamenetwork days...

- Where does it fit in your life?
Soma is life I don’t know anything else..

- Any ways soma has helped you?
Soma has helped me be the internet warrior that I am ! From my dull life struggling to drag my sorry ass out side my four walls to being the best and destroying everyone who can’t play 20hours a day..

- Any great stories you've had in regards to soma?
Ha all jokes aside, I meet some real good friends over the years, remember back on esoma talking about the weather and finding out I had about 7 people within 20miles from me playing as well. I had just passed my test and went and meet some of these people, still play and keep in contact with some of these guys today. Making good friends with people all over the uk and message and talk to some of these weekly about shit and life..
