What does soma mean to you?

Author Content Date
- How did you hear about soma?

Randomly watched gamenetwork in my tweens and saw someone playing Soma/Mir so decided to give it a try.

- Where does it fit in your life?

It's way to escape from the drama of the world without spiking my obsessive compulsive tendencies.

- Any ways soma has helped you?

It taught me about my mind and prepared me for future potential shock much better than anything I did in School ever did. I'm pretty sure I'd have taken a much safer approach in everything I've done if I hadn't been playing this game during my teens and didn't have a chance to screw around without caring what anyone else thought.

I was quite annoyed when Soma finally died. Annoyed that anybody could be so childish as to bother killing off something that brought enjoyment to so many. It was a pathetic waste. So, I kept an eye on new server developments and eventually came to this server.

Do you know what happened at the end? I had quit before then, from what I read on here someone discovered a glitch and loads of items got duped so everything was fucked up, and then they just gave up on the servers?

Server got hacked about a year or 2 before so Source code and server files got nicked and the birth of Pservers happened... then A lot of barr duping started happening.. idiots dropping piles of 100mil etc all over the place... then shortly after Duping of items... Server was hacked again and notice was made saying items were being dropped at the anvil... stacks of 32k of each items KE SS DP DT etc all dropped... that was the day the server died... GN couldn't be bothered to do rewinds etc because server was pretty much 100% breached.. and within 5 or so months Slither made an official announcement that the server was being closed..

That's when the Pservers became popular and the development of SomaDEV started.. Now we are here

The story is that someone managed to get a keylogger onto Gorthol's personal/work computer. From there, you can imagine what happened.

The small group of people who knew about it, kept it quiet for some time and used the information carefully and selectively, however I assume it just got out of hand after while.

Great Thread, Interesting Read.

How did you hear about soma?
For Me I was firstly introduced by @samthemagic, a relative who had seen the broadcast on game network.
I remember being shocked by the download size on my bonded 512k modem i downloaded the client and never looked back, the TYT music was hypnotizing

- What does it mean to you?
The sense of nostalgia every time i login, i step away from years at a time, but its 1 of only two games, that no matter how much technology progresses or years pass, i still find myself coming back and getting that same buzz as i did when i was 14, when i would spend literal weeks day and night grinding away.

- Where does it fit in your life?
it didn't use to fit in my life, my life use to fit around soma, for a good few years! I didn't really do anything else but party on the weekend and grind in the week , no responsibilities not a care in the world. But life moves on, nowa i got a whole bunch of kids a grown up real man job and 0 spare time, but i do go through stints of playing, if i do play its in the evenings or any downtime i get, and the occasional slow day at work, airport weights, coffee shops the like

- Any ways soma has helped you?
Im not sure there was any real benefit of wasting have my life playing this game previously with the exception that i found it fun, I wont pretend like it saved my life it was just a good damn game, I met a lot of people, built a lot of relationships with people, never had i met people on a game and then real life but i have with soma, The community is just different both good ways and bad, mainly good!. Now days is a great way to pass the time, great to play at the airport or work to kill a few hours and it doesn't cost anything....unlike the old days when I was paying via splash plastic every month, what was it like 7.99 i forget

- Any great stories you've had in regards to soma?
I was once in a hotel in pairs, with the char "Shinjuku" Getting entirely inebriated totally random causing a storm the story is far to immature to go into needless to say i couldn't handle my drink and i was kicked out the hotel!

Generally been great to see the development of this game purely spawned by love of this classic, iv followed and been invoked for a good chunk of my life, i will continue to dip in and out, Iv not played ofr a few years but i logged back in again last night! its nice to know my accounts always there :)

glad we could help tbh as soon as i saw the trapking post i was messaging natham straight away to see if he still had contact with u and turns out he did so we got shit done..

What i dont like though is how a bunch VK treated Gaz(trapking) when they found out he was affiliated to Angie (not really since you and ur son hadnt spoken in such a long time.. THEY HAVENT SPOKEN IN OVER 8 YEARS
)
The Sadcases that accused Trapking of being a Mole.. automatically discarding the fact that this was probably one of the best things to happen on soma... a father and son being reunited...

they had to bash it down and make it about them. and from what i hear Ste and angie recieved Abuse on Fb because of this from certain VK memebers (not accusing all VK so dont twist things)

Regardless of Guild Rivalries this should have been celebrated and not handled like the way it was...

if this is what the community is now.. why would anyone wanna come back to such negativity
it was BS like this that pushed me away from the game in the 1st place.

ISylver asks in op “is there any way Soma has helped you.” ....this seems to be a great example of that.
