The Myth of Soma Podcast - Episode 8

Rather be an “arrogant fuck” and do what’s right for the game. I’m not here to be liked I’m here to build OUR game.

Whoever that player is good riddence. Anyone who can get so worked up and resort to insults so quickly needs to consider their priorities.

Can you please start uploading the podcasts on an alternative source too? :) I only listen to podcasts while walking and you cant watch youtube videos when the phone are locked. Dno if its hard to get podcasts up on for example acast or so? This is just an idea might be unnecessary and not worth the struggle.

The feedback wasn't to annoy/insult you it was to show that not one person in that time liked the idea of the patch but worse still they don't even want to put their opinions across as they feel you just shut everything down / don't listen to what the community wants - some are even afraid of having an opinion on forum incase they get banned

So what are we seeing?

Some people like it
Some people don’t

Can I suggest you TEST IT. And then feedback.

A handful like it and the majority don’t i think is the consensus I get from reading the forums, and being in several WhatsApp and Skype groups. I did send a selfie in so I’m safe unlike Super 😂

Put this into perspective:

Every time something changes like this their is a natural friction towards it (think every time Facebook redesigns). We’re entirely confident it will achieve good and it is right so we’ll see how it performs in somas frictionful ecosystem.

We welcome feedback. However, we ask you test it and you don’t make every thread a guild bashing rivalry it’s tiresome / childish and the majority of you are 30 something adults!

I will reiterate this - if you want to quit based on a change you’ve not even tested then cya!

Sincerely

The arrogant dickhead

I think I will be sticking around to test it, depending on what other pvp based rules are in place.

I think it's more the fact that your making changes that the majority don't feel are needed

Always preferred the if it ain't broke don't fix it myself.

If you can't handle being pk'd in a PvP based game and want to quit because of it then cya (what you should be saying)

Just seems to be the usual ''macho-boys'' that have all the complaints to make.

You can still go round and get ur kicks from killing everone 2 x ..duno what ur problem is. Write down a list of the order u kill them in..then go round and repeat every 30 mins.
Not much change..but someone pkd gets 30 mins to hunt in peace.
It's hardly a life shattering change.
Give it a chance and ppl can discuss its pros ond cons.If necessary, im sure some tweaks can be made.
This is designed to give the gms inboxes a bit of rest.
Who knows...it gives them more time for some more content.

Might be a good idea to leave the area around gv as an exclusion to this 2 x pk rule...so ppl can go for a big scrap if they feel like it.

@super completely disagree that is not the narrative we should have at all. But appreciate you testing it.

Pk wars should be fine cause now as soon as you fight back you don’t get immunity

Also I don’t like this idea that we should have ‘pk areas’ . We should be trying to get pk wars in more places - second abias gate, merc, wraith pit etc

I am not a member of any other media (whatsapp, Skype and all the other stuff) and it is much more helpful that all discussion and feedback happens here because some of us don’t see it otherwise.

I also think the podcasts are helpful and valuable. I see “Gael” has started a new series of beginner videos and I think that this is an awesome idea and hopefully can be evolved into an extensive video catalogue.

To come back to your podcast; you have (as usual) taken some flack. However, you did raise an important point about the new PK system and that is the “Boss Spawns”. Some of us (particularly rival guilds) can’t get near the bosses because half the opposing Guild deny access to it. The new system will facilitate an “all out attack” on the boss (with the penalty of 2 resi scrolls if you remember to bring them). I think that works much better for everyone and is an excellent step forward.

As a player who is inherently crap at PvP I don’t really have any thoughts on the value of the new PK system but do agree with the many comments that have been made “try it and see”.

I also see that there have been a number of comments posted that you are pushing your own agenda and opinion(s). I see too that you have stated you always say it is your opinion (and you do). This is intended to be a positive observation (and not a criticism) – try to distance yourself more from a perception of being sat in an ivory tower. I think you would garner more support and credit.

Lastly, returning back to boss spawns; you mentioned “camping”. Personally I enjoyed chasing bosses which I cannot do now. Firstly I get marmalised (that is now being addressed) but secondly, some bosses were changed to fixed spawns. Although they are minor bosses, two drop significant and very desirable items (Raro and Darian queen). I have long since petitioned for a change to these since they are camped and always killed by two specific characters that log on purely for those bosses (and nothing else). They are too high level to be PKed unless a group appears to kill them (which will never happen) and they always get the drop(s) – see the feed. I wonder if you would solicit opinion and report?

I think it is! What happens when the 5% who complain about the PvP start saying that 30minutes isn't long enough (this is all your inboxes will be full of in a few weeks) , does the immunity period keep getting made longer while PvP keeps getting more and more restricted? Until the point where your losing the majority of players just to satisfy that 5%

maybe then you'll need to use my "if you can't handle PvP in a massively Pvp based game then cya"

xD

The problem isn't with the PK system, It's with the people using the pk system imo.

Some people don't know when to stop.

I personally welcome this change, I think for those who are "trigger happy" and would like to pk to their hearts content there should be a PK map, purely go there to PK and have some active notification when you are in that map how many players are there. And maybe some sort of ranking/reward system for this to entice players to go into that map.

That way, imo everyone is a winner

(The people who just want to hunt and have fun in game, and the people who want to pk to their hearts content.)
