Myth of soma build guide part 1

Author Content Date
Really, there's only a few possible "builds" in hsoma. The fact that most (myself included) do bow/axe is that those weaps lend themselves to the builds well.

Your choices are:

High str & dex, mediocre int
High int & dex, mediocre str
High int & str, mediocre dex

The last of those 3 doesn't really count because high str is no good if you can't hit anything and high int is no good if you can't cast.

So 2 builds...

The +50 route is a challenge, but tedious and time consuming for those that can only play a few hours per week. I haven't healed any int because I don't have time for it and I'd wager the endgame benefits of healing to 100 are marginal compared to just casting at mobs.

Any game with chars with 3k+ hours playtime that have never set foot outside of tyt is a fundamental flaw in something, whether it's the game or the masochistic personalities of those who do it is up for debate.

No matter how anyone plays, if they are enjoying themselves and not hurting anyone then there's no issue really is there?

Just remove cap limit, what's the need for it anyways? Levels don't mean anything apart from bagweight, stamina, more HP and more MP. So that being said, keep the str/dex/int caps on, but just let everyone free level, that way everyone will end up with the same stats, some with more or less of the previously mentioned attributes.

''3k+ hours without setting foot out of tyt is a flaw''

can't argue with that ..when 2.5k+ of those are afk..
( speed up the healing pls )

Anyway..it's good to see ppl expressing, bouncing opinions around rather than squabbling....

All we need now is a sink next to the oven.. for the lady players to do some washing- up.. maybe they can wash corpses to make tannin or summat like that x

We discussed this in another thread but I'd be interested to see the stat difference at level 120 between someone who did +50 and healed to 100 int, compared to someone who just hunted +10 / +30. I bet its barely 3-4 stats.

You can work out the relative exp for each level by the amount given per rested exp pots in the sticky thread at the top. As an example, it's roughly 4 times more exp to level at 120 compared to level 80. I bet you could go from 0-80int in 1 level at level 80. So that's worth roughly 25% exp at level 120. That's probably 1-2 str at 210str or 1 dex at 150+.

Is it really worth 2k hours?

The biggest difference in stats for 1st gen chars compared to now is that we all wasted loads of exp doing con / farming /essys / hunting bosses.

"RAVENSOUL"A decent podcast, decent guide's for them 2 builds.

But you have also just shown imho what is wrong with soma to a degree.

Requiring x amount of characters to do con till 30, healing for int till 100, the +50 melee route and +30 mage route.

You try telling any new player that has never played soma before that they need to do 30 con, heal to 100 to have any chance of taking part in the many different aspects of soma i.e. Gvw, wotw, ss, bosses etc and there not going to hang around after the first day or 2.

This imho needs addressing because it is this part of Soma that is and will continue to put off new players, players can't afford to invest the amount of time that is required to get there character to the point they can actually start enjoying Soma with real life, work, family etc.

You may as well make a welcome post with the following in it....

Welcome to Soma where you need to invest over 3,500 hours before you can start to take part in the real Soma.

Games are meant to be for fun, to relax and unwind after an hard day, the above comment doesn't sound very appealing to me and I'm sure to a lot of others either.

Could not agree more with every word of this.

I don't see why +50 and heal to 100 int can't be 'undone' simply by making all mobs +50 then some trivial route to 30 con and 100 int - perhaps via quest chains that reward +x of that stat per quest in the chain as a reward. Would work well if these quests were built as the 'introduction' to the game so that during the course of the quests you were shown around and how the basic mechanics work.

Even if you don't do +50 the problem of barr, items, hours to cap regardless of +50 and then crafting on top of that means that there is a huge barrier to access, even more so if you don't join one of the two main cabals of players who own 6 years worth of generations of items and characters already.

You could easily sell Soma to new players beyond those who have nostalgia if you were to make it essentially trivial-ish to get to the cap and +5 gear stage then reserve +8 gear as difficult for the truly hardcore and then build in mechanics to encourage regular large scale open world PvP.

I've proposed a parallel pos system for PvP rather than just RvR and a pos shop that actually sells valuable items but i'm sure you could come up with many other incentives.

Someone with healed to 100 int and true +50 throughout has same stats as me but in 4 levels lower and that's with me at level 112

Tyrese is 100int healed fully +50 route hunted.

Str 220.0
Dex 165.6 (I think it’s 0.6)
Int 130

My stats aren’t that much different to any of the other chars with a similar build. The only thing I did differently was got 130int instead of 120.

Maybe the dex slows even it out faster than int slows on mage version?

Getting fixated on +50 or otherwise is irrelevant.

I levelled Sal3m knowing 110 stat allocation patch was coming so never had to do d soma +50.

To cap, get 100 arm skill and 102 cook and make mediocre gear I have 929 in game hours and d soma is probably faster than h soma.

The barrier to access is way too high esp when the route is set bow and axe. Just too much boring grind and no prospect of competing with people in guilds that own masses of characters and items that have been handed down over 6 years.

Nobody wants to play a game where you might have fun in 1500 hours, probably more depending on how access you have to crafters etc in your guild/how lucky you get.

Plus to go by the one Sub v Tyrese e.g healing seems to make a huge difference looking at the dex disparity.

From speaking to many players I'm not too sure where this myth of only 2-3 stat difference came from but it's more than that.

Player A does con till 30, heals to 100 and levels the +50 route will have between 10-15 more stats than player B that does con till 30, int till 100 on mobs and levels without the +50 route.

Commendable tho your time spent playing afk and getting a good start might be ...
This isn't a great advertisement or incentive for new players to start playing Soma

Some part timers struggle to get 10 hours a week...
divide that by 10 .. multiply by 6 and add 15.... subtract 24 and and divide by 3 for days with a Y in them .. = errmmm ( calculator whirring) ....
they never gona start playing ..unless healing is speeded up..

Casting auras for stats looks impressive, but they get eaten up in the ''stat, equalising machine'' that's built in here... so..... they're disappeared and meaningless by about lev 50- 60.

The healing for int is good tho... but doing it afk aint the way to go about it imo.. Making it easier. would help every1,and maybe not put off the casual part timers or new ppl from giving it a go here.

Gms should put something in along the lines of a minimum stat amount
