For the casual player 1-2 hours at a time is about as much time they get to unwind, kick back and relax to play Soma what with work, real life etc.
So a few months back I create a character to see for myself how easy/difficult Soma is for a casual player. I limited the time to the 1-2 hours when I could spare the time. I decided I wouldn’t help this character at all, no free armour, weapons, accessories or sr’s or Barr. I managed to get this character to around cyclone shanis, hoarde shanis tier of mobs and ran out of barr. He can’t afford to pay for pots, sold all drops he managed to get to get 2 Apus bow +2 B speed and for the sr’s he managed to get 50k each sr when he needed. With the introduction of the immunity potions now that you can get for 2 dailies for 2 immunity potions I brought him out of retirement and kitted him out for a test. 2 dailies for 2 marks to get 2 immunity potions. Cyclone shanis 300 kills for 1 mark, hoarde shanis 250 kills for 1 mark, sounds easy enough.... Well from start to finish around 2 an half hours to complete all to get 2 (1 hour immunity potions) Cost of 4 resi scrolls (just under 100k) 2 sr’s for the bows (50k apc) and I collect from drops just over 70k in Barr. I made a loss just to acquire 2 immunity potions. Now the question is, use them to level for hours of peace or to do 2 more dailies the next time I would have free for him. Seems redundant no matter what I decide. This is what your average casual player is faced with, yet they continue to get the egotistical replies of take 2 deaths ( not when they can’t afford the 2 resis) or pots, sr’s if there lucky enough to have anything worth to sr. I’m not expecting anything from this, just thought I would share it and show a point of view what the average casual player is faced with while trying to have some fun in there very limited spare time.

I'm very much a Pve player, casual of the most casual, reaching level 125 the other day after playing 7 years. Apart from SR's from Lyon I've received no help or gifts, or have guild mates to help. I get Pk'd often as i'm an easy target but the game is what it is, a survival of the fittest, frustrating at times but leveling to the top and killing the boss mobs is all still possible. I think the casual player needs to accept these challenges and just take the 2 deaths and move on. This game is what it is, to be competitive needs endless hours and teamwork. Getting PKd doesn't bother me as much as the man-child minded personalities of the players doing it. I also often try to remember what you said the other day Raven "whatever happened to just having fun", so lets have fun and do our best to ignore the man-children. /Wafflemodeoff

You won’t really need immunity potions until you reach level 105+.
Most leave the pve guys alone, unless it’s pretty obvious they are a second char for some one in the opposite guild. |

I was a new player around March and tbh it was easy enough. I had no barr so I crafted and made millions in profit, also as someone mentioned above I sold SBGs for 100k apc. Anyone who complains about barr is living on fantasy land.
You don't need immunity pots until you are lvl 100 - 110. A town portal scroll is 200barr so I used that myself. Only thing I found hard was around 84str - 110 str with a D speed apus bow.

Appreciate the comments, some of you are on a what I would call the different end of the game time scale of hardcore players as opposed to the casual players it was referring to the 1-2 hours maybe 2 or 3 times a week player not the 6+ hours every day player.
Yes Barr can be easy enough to get farming items like sbg’s, the point of the thread was for any casual player the rewards from purely levelling should help keep that player self sufficient. Doing quests, dailies or farming are what I would class as side actions if ever you get bored from levelling. The point is the average of 1 hour per daily to complete doesn’t justify the time versus reward, neither do a lot of the quests to kill 1,2,3k plus of x monster for a laughable reward as is the case for a lot of them. Levelling up should give you the rewards to continue just alone, all the other means are a bonus, this was my point. As much as the game as been improved, made quicker, it still boils down to time but a lot of players will and do feel time invested versus reward is far too wide.

I can definitely see how the majority of casual players would leave. There's a point where it would just become futile and the cost of res scrolls alone would be crippling (not talking about myself and my illiterate pk 'friend' here). In the 80s and 90s you will be killed, repeatedly if you're unlucky.
It's easy to say 'hunt swamp beasts' and such but If people only have a few hours a week to put in, why would they possibly want to waste that time hunting swamp beasts just to offset the cost of being killed the following week? They can - and do - just leave and in a game that has an economy which benefits from having players of all levels hunting most mobs, having most of them leave ultimately hurts everyone.

one of the big problems is lack of a community... The game is very much based on PvP you're either one side or the other of the 2 guild fight we all see.
Before you had a mixed bag, a selection of guilds that were either PK, PvP, Mixed or majority PvE with helpful players in each specializing in helping people to fit the roles of the guild and their own style of play, the truth is I see all this talk about PvE players but I do not see a PvE guild helpful to it's players. (Lyon and a few others are amazing people who help everyone but in general arcanix is used as a stepping stone to the 2 guilds, sorry)

I disagree Blight, we in Rebirth are not on either side and we are a PvE guild and have helped everyone that has been a member of our family.
There are plenty more PvE guilds out there from the solo players to small groups of friends that take no part in PvP but are consistently attacked and never fight back. It’s no good adding an extra 5 or 10 levels every so often, adding new armours, weapons, spells, upgrades etc to keep the top end players happy for a few weeks or month, this game needs and deserves more players, new players. It’s why I’ve posted numerous times regarding lower end mobs drop files, quests etc to fit within the level cycle of a character time versus reward. We all play a part in Soma, at times it seems more frustrating than enjoyment when the same discussion of aspects in the game keep being brought up time after time. It’s no good focusing on one aspect and neglecting others this just creates a wider gap between players than previously. This thread, post was not a dig at any individual player, guild, or our GM’s I was just trying to show the view a new player may find themselves faced with.

You might be better with just making a list of what you'd like to see drop and from what mobs ect, as is all good drawing attention to low lvl struggles without suggesting what needs what
Like for example id like to see more nahwans bloods or even frogs/herbs drop from melee mobs below shanis so lower lvls can obtain some evasion for starting at shanis ect Lesser tablet of evil was added to lower mobs, but it seems the drop rate isn't very high, been told ppl lvled up with out even 1 droping The struggles the same on dsoma, you lvl far to fast for the drop rate or armor/weapons that you require

The trouble is that you don’t spend that long at each mob to really get to do the quests that mob has to offer, that fact the drop files are out of sync with the level of your character to help you, combine that with the drop rates.
I’d be happy to go through low level mob files but if the drop rates plus rng are just the same it won’t make much difference I don’t feel. I did make a thread about evasion/accuracy armour being placed on the donations section and iSylver mentioned something about possible adding some quests for nawhans and keen eyes but not heard anymore on that.

Is this post seriously about the struggle of buying res scrolls? A casual player of 1-2hours should still be able to do well imo.. he will just not compete with the guys doing 6h+ a day and nor should he.
We need more guides for new players on where they need to hunt, the different build options they can choose and off they go. If you are grinding for immunity pots at uber noob level then you are simply wasting your time. This game is getting easier each day to a point its off-putting to play. You can get 4% accuracy / eva set for as little as couple of days of sd/ruby/dt farm or just farm enough sbgs and can get a set.

Could even add some evasion armor to quests as long as the armor uses the evasion thats not upgradeable it wouldn't effect higher levels

Take my posts in this thread however you want to.
Over the last few months I’ve seen new players and friends leave and all seemed to have similarities as to there reason on leaving. So it was there reasons I made a test character and purposely decided to not help that character or take help in anyway to see for myself what a new player may face. Strange that some of the posters on here actually read the point I was trying to point out and others focused on just individual parts. It’s not about pk, it’s not about resis scrolls, it’s not about immunity or Barr it’s was about everything that a new player faces on there journey and to highlight these areas hoping for ideas, suggestions to help keep these players interested in staying rather than them leaving.
