I miss...

Author Content Date
I miss the beginning of the server where we had several different guilds and the koreans/chinese were mysterious and in most cases another enemy.

I miss the old PK system where your guild would come to your aid instead of telling you to buy immunity pots or allow the griefing.

I miss all weps that aren't those god ugly valour weps.

I miss soma :(

this is the only platform/ website people refer to for Soma. Its impossible for someone to make a new server (no matter how good it is) if they cant grab the core playerbase attention. It would pull no players in and would die the moment it is launched.

Since Finito has confirmed there will never be another server (you can thank the botting community for this including all the toxic morons who defend a no wipe purely to appease there own demise) this game is dead in the water.

There is likely many many people like you and me who check this website in hope that one day something might happen, but lets be honest we are simply wasting our hope and time.

This is what happens when 1 guild is allowed by the gm to bot their way to a monopoly of power. As we have seen with the recent botting bans there is no interest from the gms to stop this sort of behaviour. Usercount getting lower by the day as these cretins continue to grieff people off the server.

you can dream of new servers ..
they won't have Finito's improvements that he put in over the years..
they won't have his expertise to maintain and keep the server running for 10 yrs +

yes some mistakes and things could have been different here.. Fin has said so.. he hasn't been the gm guiding the direction of the game for most of the time
guessing, but Fin has been the 'maintenance' man and kept things running smoothly

not sure of what's happening atm, but i think we have 1 gm .. Finito..
the mechanics of the game run smooth and largely without any tech problems, and fixed if any problems..

main problem here is cheating players.. and can't be an easy job for 1 gm to keep track of..

Personally.. as regards going back to 'esoma' and all that entailed..no ty..

Give Finito a chance and don't be so harsh.. it's not him, but cheaters..they've blown rl cash trying to make it shit for the others.

Still a good game here... every1 knows that

Pages and pages of suggestions, moans and complaints and ideas how to change things.. probably no need to go over them again..
the gm knows what ppl want, desire and would like to be implemented..

Maybe we'll get some updates .. if we deserve it

And not counting the other old mmorpgs/ Core Developer / Community forums that are listed, do you see something that this website isn't doing? If you don't let me explain.

Somadev forums was once a thriving community that consisted of like minded people who had a love for the Myth of Soma. Development on a emulator was being made by the host of the forums to allow full control of the game, WHILST THE COMMUNITY ITSELF WAS THRIVING MAKING NEW SERVERS IN THE TIME THE FORUMS WAS THRIVING ALLOWING ALL OF ITS PLAYERBASE TO REKINDLE THIS KEYWORD: **NOSTALGIA** WITH A VERY GOOD PLAYERBASE SUPPORTING IT.

Once the decision was made to scrap the Emulator, the decision was made to create an "un official" Myth Of Soma global server. Everyone looked up to this decision at the time like it was the next big thing that would catapult Soma. What people DONT realize is that the Emulator aspect was scrapped and it was made to be just another private server, masked by the eyes of being an official server. By doing this you completely alienate everything you had by directing everyone to a new website with a integrated forum, leaving VERY QUICKLY Somadev to die and rot with all the history and community it had.

Since then the game that launched has become a completely different game that has so many flaws I cant even list and has made the community so toxic it makes people like me COMPLETELY stay away from playing it.

I could literally write another 5000 words, but I just realized i am already wasting my time writing this so far.

Unless Soma goes back to its roots from a game standpoint (and also a community forum standpoint) it will NEVER see people like me who want to play for NOSTALGIA return ever again.

Nostalgia comes in 2 aspects. e-soma and private servers. with the quality of life that private servers offered whilst still enduring the nostalgia, which one do you choose? A server riddled with toxic, disgusting, key logging, botting, very low user count thats beein up for over 10 years. etc or a forum like we did back in the day that had a thriving community and gave people a reason to revisit a website so they can fulfill there nostalgia trip every 6-12 months? There is a reason that very long term private servers in every mmorpg tend to have a very low playercount.

I love Finito dont get me wrong, hes a nice guy and has a good heart, but I cant help but feel like Dans influence was part of this whole influence that veered Soma away from what made it great, especially when Somadev forums was actually thriving.

Controlling the bot situation would be a full time job in itself, it’s too far gone at this point and even if it was prevented, people would find workarounds and the issue would persist.

It was good while it lasted, accept it and continue playing a bot/cheat ridden game or accept it and move on - nothing of any serious impact is going to change either way.

Everyone that has botted/cheated, which is probably 95%+ of players at this point, only has their self to blame for the demise of this game/server. Congratulations you played yourselves.

It's honestly bordering on hilarious that people keep making excuses about how hard it is to stop the cheating and there's only one person doing it and blah blah.

People were caught and no punishment was given out. The other characters one of those people played on were listed and already known to most anyway, and nothing happened. They were back in the game behaving like a cunt within days. This was not the first time people have been caught and suffered no real consequences.

Finito posted and said cheating on alt accounts is fine, he will not punish the characters that actually benefit. The server is infested with bots because nothing has ever been done to stop it. Even when people are caught, nothing happens to them. Stop excusing this shit.

Specifically :-

"FINITO"
Will most likely be making the decision soon to keep just MICHEKI and KUSTONS as permanent ban because they were actually caught. The rest were just linked to them in various ways and will therefore most likely be unbanned soon

A degree of hyperbole on my part but also pretty clear that "linked" characters, in this case characters that benefited from weeks upon weeks upon weeks of bot frag farming, will not be touched. Which - given they've subsequently been running around the server harrasing people as per - appears to be the case.

Undoubtedly not punishing botters lead to more people doing it, but how in any way does that discount what I’ve said about it being a full time job to deal with it? You’d need to monitor situations, assess and ban accordingly, put things in place to prevent botting being so easy, be in an arms race with the botters constantly as every fix would be worked around and the cycle just repeats.

Finito has a job, a life and better things to do tbh. The game is dead so quit crying about it and move on, you little passive aggressive bitch.

The point being that regardless of the relative difficulty of catching people and regardless of whether there's one guy in his spare time or a dedicated team of a hundred people, characters were caught and nothing happened to their main characters that got the benefits. It's completely irrelevant how hard a job it is or how many people do it if nothing happens to those who are caught. Waving the 'it's a difficult job' flag after multiple people have been caught is bizarre and completely misses the point.

Since you brought it up again though - yeah catching everyone would be an impossible task. Catching the most egregious would be quite a simple task, as demostrated by the fact that Finito is catching them in his spare time. All those craft bots that spent 140 hours a week crafting wouldn't exactly be hard to catch either. You deal with the worst offenders, dish out some actual punishment and the worst of the problem fades away. It would always be there, much like it always has, but those taking the piss wouldn't be.

Totally agree the game is dead, I've said so myself more than once. Makes it all the weirder that you're here, having not played in years, offering near daily insight into it. Let go, mate. Let go.

It's also very telling that less dlkr members are logging in now that Finito is keeping an eye out for people botting.

"SUPER7"This is what happens when 1 guild is allowed by the gm to bot their way to a monopoly of power. As we have seen with the recent botting bans there is no interest from the gms to stop this sort of behaviour. Usercount getting lower by the day as these cretins continue to grieff people off the server.

Yes the triads really did get a lot of decent gear. Good riddance, there botting ways caught up with them.
