Can this be re-added?

Not sure why it was removed in the first place but it would give people something to do now more and more are capped/close to cap.

There's plenty of good ideas being thrown around on this section of the forum most for me seem like they'd take too much time/work to implement. Surely adding Abyss wouldn't be hard/time consuming?

Sylver mentioned a while ago they are looking into bringing it back with some changes. Sounded excellent so hopefully they come to fruition at some point.

Abyss was unused, and imo always always sucked. No XP, just purely 'treasure hunting' In reality apart from MWUN or other boss's grinding for Q items to turn in for a arm/weop enhancement or ingredient was not an attractive prospect. Now if you want to talk about grinding Q items for decent gear then we can talk. Soma may be an old game, but i don't want it to be 'dated' by old perspectives of you must spend 200 hours to have a 0.9% chance of getting something that will improve your character by 0.1% vs wotw or gvw. It MUST have purpose, It MUST be fun AND rewarding.

It wasn't unused at all and the whole point of Abyss was that you could hunt harder mobs with a much higher drop rate without gaining XP. Not entirely sure what your point is.

My point is that was the reason sylver gave in changelog at a time. he didnt just do it for a laugh

So are you re-iterating what Dan said or is that your opinion? (or both) Also which changelog?

I'll say again, there's plenty of ideas on the forum but a lot are far-fetched imo. Surely re-adding a map that already exists wouldn't take much work in comparison. More importantly it would give people something to do.

People who are capped and close to cap have nothing to do apart from improve their gear, so re-adding Abyss where the mobs are harder and have higher drop rates is a no brainer.

giving a much bigger gain than it should have.
- A side effect of this was int and wis would increase for non-mage devil soma characters at a increased rate the same also applies to str,dex,con for mage devil soma characters.
- Also fixes database table stat caps where value is 0 it will now use the 0 value instead of forcing to 1.

- If a NPC with this AI type hits another NPC then it will prevent that NPC from dropping money
or items.

Might be in this somewhere. But i agree abyss would be a nice touch to give people, especially on dsoma something to do insteada just logging out.

So are you re-iterating what Dan said or is that your opinion? (or both) Also which changelog?

I'll say again, there's plenty of ideas on the forum but a lot are far-fetched imo. Surely re-adding a map that already exists wouldn't take much work in comparison. More importantly it would give people something to do.

People who are capped and close to cap have nothing to do apart from improve their gear, so re-adding Abyss where the mobs are harder and have higher drop rates is a no brainer.


He posted his reasons for most decisions during dev on old site, i read it from his posts there around Feb 2013 at that time

Four examples of iSylver's decision, if you want the reason, you should be able to find it there. i remember reading back then so... the last demonstrates he thought it was a flaw. I agree, hence my views on the matter

Reading through those, can't see any justification other than Dan not liking it himself. My point still stands though, re-adding Abyss and changing the drops to whatever Dan wants is still a no brainer.
