At the same time I don't see your logic. :D

Why would you go to the abyss when you can go NM's or BLG? Surely they drop better than any abyss mob.

Anyway I'm sticking this to difference of opinion. Thanks for the debate. I hope isylver/finito can use it as inspiration.

Because they'd have a different/better drop file and be harder? God help people who play dsoma then, may as well never cap because as we can see people quit because there's sweet FA to do and the drop files/rates are garbage.

I don't understand, in the post you quoted I never mentioned DSoma and I only use HSoma mobs to compare with HSoma abyss drops.

I shall reword it.

Why would HSoma ask for the Abyss when it is my belief that Nightmares (frogs) and / or Beast Lord Guardians (EP's + more) drop more frequently and maybe even have a better drop file than any abyss mob in the HSoma abyss. This is including the quest for Swift Spirit, which takes one day per item roughly and requires 14 items I believe.

Please note that I'm talking about the Abyss that it was on ESoma. I'm not actually again reinstating the abyss or stealing from it. I just think it's not good enough and can be done more easily or in a better way.

I believe Dsoma generally agrees that the abyss is useless drop wise / quest so i see no need to discuss that part further.

Would be great to see abyss back but when you lvl 100 you can farm where you like without messing up your char.

Every game has a point where there nothing to do at the end. adding something for end game will shut people up for a while but still will end up in the same place and people wanting something else.

Id say hold off on new stuff and fix the current problems which the big one to me seems to be dsoma drop rates

As you can see from the first page of the thread, I was talking about re-adding Abyss and updating the mob drop files to give people something else to do. Adding Abyss exactly how it was would be stupid, but nowhere in this thread am I saying that.

Abyss is flawed with the items/its limitation in terms of quests/the mobs are a bit samey.

If I ever got an hour or two to myself I'd proceed with the idea Finito and I had - to bring back an abyss style map which required team work and with greater rewards.

We started a google doc on this subject. Discussing rewards, mob AI (e.g. Self destructing monster) and a series of bosses. However, with my trip away, house hunting, work commitments, second job and a baby on the way my time for soma is simply limited.

Side note: Perhaps it's something you guys could help with e.g. Create a map for this "Caustic Caverns" (Name not agreed) and collate your ideas together on what should be there.

Sounds like a plan.

Gratz on the baby Dan.

Had a look at trying to make a map a few weeks ago was bored. Look hard work but wasnt that bored to rack my brain but since I ain't really playing much might give it a proper look on the weekend.

Community made map might be nice

Something like abyss is needed for capped chars imo. With the cap raise not happening anytime soon, something more than a one-off quest is needed.

Don't understand what the concern is with abyss, but if there isn't time to adapt maybe just tweak back the drop rates to begin with. Test to see how it works.

Another option could be that you can only enter once every week or something. If you log Your time Is up. Would get people thinking about classes, optimum hunting groups etc

Agreed. As much as I understand current issues need fixing, I do also think level 100's need to be catered for as they're the ones that play regularly, rather than the more casual players. And as there are more and more capped players nowadays, there must be a good 20 or so in hsoma, it is something that needs to be considered before they all quit. I can think of a fair few that barely play now, while their lack of activity may be due to other factors, I'm sure some new things to do would keep at least a few of them playing regularly.

As it is, hit level 100, do some quests then...

I don't think Abyss needs to be anything groundbreaking like Isylver was talking about before (mob AI etc), just a basic map, with various new mobs of varying difficulty that have a decent droprate of items.

Only 4 mobs are needed:

1) Mobs that could be killed solo (not everyone is in a big guild with an army of level 95+ players to back them up), with a slightly lower drop rate. One int based and one melee based.

2) Stronger mobs that are difficult enough that a group is needed bring them down efficiently. Higher drop rate reflecting their difficulty. One int based and one melee based.

I think the group mobs are a necessity. The attraction of Soma is the community, yet on the game you spend 99% of your time hunting solo. It doesn't make sense.

If this was to be added, further additions/alterations could be made at a later date to improve it as and when required.

Farming mobs have been in my mind for a while now. We might use these to test how the after-cap mobs should be. Of course farming mobs would never give XP.

Whether we need a new map for this or not is debatable. With IC being hardly used in DSoma by lvlers and still some room left in VoD we have an opportunity to increase the amount of people raiding the other world. We can also use conti and use the mobs as incentive. Personally I would prefer to put the solo mobs in the normal maps and the group maps in conti.

However my main priority at this point is updating the current quests. After that we'll probably add some more quests focussed on lvl 100. When we are comfortable with that we will most likely start working on things like these mobs.

Do note that these are things I can prepare myself. Finito has a huge list of his own work.

Dont take this the wrong way, but personally i think it's being over complicated. This will take time.
Also Introducing hard mobs to conti for groups will also not work because of the risk of dropping items on conti....people will not take the risk.
Thought will also have to go into not putting mobs near hunting areas etc etc.

Abyss map is done, it was excellent, and it worked. It just may need minor tweaks.

These quests although appreciated, seem to be draining a lot of development time. They are good, but they are limited. If you created repeatable quests (through a spawning npc once a month like inwhang or something), then you are creating content that will last forever, and not be limited.

Something like Abyss is long lasting content for lvl 100's. Unfortunately the population at high levels is dwindling, and i'm not sure more quests will be enough to get people back or keep the current lvl 100's interested for long enough.
