clarification on soft cap (dex)

Author Content Date
From an earlier thread i noticed someone say there's a soft cap of 100 for dex. Is this the case?

From previous pservers that has been the case.
Nothing I have seen has confirmed it here.

I agree it would be nice to know!

I'd assume it's the same, clarification would be nice.

Conversely, ask Style, he is rumoured to have hit 100dex a few weeks ago.

Additionally, he's still using bow/knuck.

If it is, everyone may as well just pick up a staff, because there would be no point in doing melee after 100 dex.

You can still gain a stat, but it increases so incredibly slow that it's not worth doing.

From my experience on the test server it works as followed (for any stat) - at 95 there's a huge slowdown making it so that you get very stats per lvl. This picks up as you get higher lvl and the XP per lvl increases by masses.

Now Dex, like Wis is the slower version of Str and Int, except for dex you choose whether or not you do it and Wis just goes up as you do int. It's up to yourself if you think dex is worth doing, personally I've always hated having low dex compared to str.

Seems to be more unclear than i thought. Was thinking this was why so many people have chosen int.

isylver, can you confirm whether the slowdown in dex at 100 is disproportionate to that of str? I have think people need to know this as they're at a disadvantage if it is the case (unless your main melee wep is axe).

Some kind of dex cap is surely required, everyone knows dex > str by a long way, If there wasnt everyone would just do pure bow to cap, and then skill another weapon to do decent damage / pvp with.
Not to mention lower levels / more casual players start catching up at the dex / str slow downs, removal would just mean a lvl 100 would probably have 120/130/?? god know what dex, and lower levels would be just unable to hit them. If there was a cap, high lvls would have ~100 dex, and even lvl 60/70s can get to 80-90 dex and still have a chance of actually doing some damage.

On another note wouldnt it be an advantage to you? If its pointless getting dex after 100, you could probably get to 95 dex now and do sword and be near 100 dex by the time you cap str? An axer would probably be required to do a lot more dex with a dex weapon to be near the 100 dex "softcap" by the time they reach blg str cap.

Another small note, if it is "incredibly slow that it's not worth doing." as according to s0rc, HH / Stinger dex reqs should probably be adjusted accordingly

Absolutely. They were designed for the absolute endgame melee players in esoma and then the server change to requirements increased that....

If its true that a character will be unable to cap both STR and INT then once DEX becomes effectively impossible to gain, surely you want a weapon that gets you the best STR possible in the shortest time. Then you can cap STR (at 167?) quickly and focus on getting as close to the INT cap as possible.

Sword, Knuck and Bow users continuing to use these weps after 95 DEX are wasting huge amounts of EXP as well as gaining their STR slower than axe or spear.

It seems the Dex softcap of 100 is identical to the Dsoma Mage softcap of Wis.

You're looking at Dex reaching 110 by the time you have around 140 Str.

Considering people going for this are archers, 3Str per 1 Dex at 100+Dex is quite demoralising!

That said, if Dan takes time out to fix the Dex for humans, I'd very much appreciate he fixes Wis for devil Mages!

It would in no way benefit me, or any other melee char. Our only defense against mages is having better dex, and if this is capped at 100, everyone will eventually have the same dex. So who wins? Mages who get 4/5 frogs a day for evasion.... Would be a no contest. Like belka says, the whole server will be axe and staff - exciting stuff....

Don't understand why this wasn't changed as test server changed, I know it was 40x rates however the dex could go up to 200 I believe? Don't quote as im not 100% but I definitely remember gaining dex regularly after 100.

This does need a GM clarification and probably should of been asked before hand so people can plan accordingly otherwise there will be alot of unhappy campers, may explain why Style(s) stopped leveling and moved onto ceo_008 if he's hit dex softcap?
