"RAVENSOUL"Arrows achieve velocity as the bow is drawn (energy added by the archer) then released (energy transferred from the bow limbs through the string and to the arrow.) At the instant an arrow leaves the string, there is no longer a force pushing and accelerating the arrow. Once the arrow is in flight, the only outside force acting on it that affects its speed and power is the air resistance slowing it down called the drag. The total amount of drag on an arrow is a factor of the shape of the arrow, the speed of the arrow and the density of air. Because there is no thrust or anything else to power the arrow’s flight after leaving the string, the drag alone will determine the arrow’s deceleration over the remainder of the flight. 100%

what about height .. if shooting from above.. the weight of the arrow will gain velocity due to gravity and the further away, the greater that will be?
maybe x |

Now people who play SOMA will not play archers in DSOMA. Everyone is getting ready to leave. Thanks for nerfing the bow. Thanks for letting me leave the game. GM

There is still a role for the archers in Soma it’s just you no longer can take on groups of players solo, adapt, play the supporting role tactics.

Archer still strong on dsoma, they have the highest dex ingame
The range advantage that makes them unkillable is what's been nerfed Also brings up survivability for the range 1 chars |

"ISYLVER"This - we actively made the bow stronger with the caveat that this damage reduction would come in. Let’s take a look at nega bow vs nega knuckle as a base (compare Untag). Ok let’s say I agree what was the point of the new armour then and now 150hp pots can be bought from npc, thought the whole point of armour was to negate some damage due to the high attack of the new weps

Bow: 45-61 (D 1150) = 92 DPS
Knuckle: 54-66 (750) = 160 DPS
This means bows for bow to be bumped to a similar damage it needed 73% boost in attack (which we did with the new tier aligning DPS).
So if you want no damage reduction then we could have to reduce the bows attack by 57% which will leave you much worse off.
Ultimately fox is right, this change sets us up for the right future. I’m interested to discuss how it’s calculated but ultimately the change is needed.
Test it, feedback, give it time rather than instantly dismissing it because it’s clouded by self interest.

That’s to address damage concerns across the board as previously mentioned the attack was so high to gain balance across the board at nega knuckle level but also make it worth it for knuckles.
Frankly everyone now has the same DPS opportunity. The only difference is that archers can actually hit from further away - so it’s arguably still the best class to choose (not forgetting it’s actually still a better pve wep because of no damage reduction)

Haven’t read all the thread but is it from range 3 when the damage reduction starts for archers and mages or just archers?

This is the fundamental of it. Makes complete sense to me. soma was always built to be roughly balanced… we are miles away from esoma so need to recognise we need to change. +8 weps, +16str gear, +5attack or +5 pod gear… let’s be real here the intent of soma was to never have a archer sit at max range with brutal atk means you need to be more than and archer or mage and gbird range kill 😂

So range 1 and 2 full attack from onwards it reduces the damage as an arrow would be like in the real world? Bringing realism to soma then....
Now the reduction damage is in place, there’s possible grounds then for bow to have its full range brought back was it range 7 or 8?

"ISYLVER" Just some questions brought forward: 1)How are dex mages meant to compete damage wise now? at least before they stood a good chance at competing now they have been set back, same as warriors. 2)Are there going to be any more changes that will influence your chosen gear? such as switching from ma to proc etc 3)I really wish somadev the best Dan but for me I'm done. Still hope somadev crushes exoodus. 4) when the new armour is main stream, how will damage stand for warriros vs mages then? 5) How much planning has gone into this and how many more changes till its a full balance change? Not my questions, Sadly too many changes in the dynamics every time i make something decent for me to continue playing. Good luck to soma dev, plz crush exodus.

1. If anything the same. Your evasion is still the same, your attack in melee is actually better off compared to nega tier across the board. As for spells and procs a needed change to stop one bangs
2. Change happens all the time. It’s life. Can’t promise that we don’t change anything. 3. All the best 4. Go see - same can be said for when “weapons are main stream” 5. Quite a lot of planning actually. We were talking about damage reduction months ago and was always going to go in. No need for us to “crush” anything. Both can operate without need for volatility or hatred.
