If you want to get people back playing the game then it needs to feel like Soma again. Making useful items drop is the best way to do that without major effort.

ToV, repeatable quests for items, valour in general - All that is fine as a way of getting specific items in a timely manner but, as I've been saying for 3 years now, Soma was always about going out to hunt mobs and getting drops.

It's no coincidence that the more the game has moved away from that, the smaller the general population has become. If you have an hour here and there, why would you play Soma right now? You can go hunt the top tier mobs and there's every chance you wouldn't even get anything worth picking up.

I've said this quite a few times but it always bares repeating - if we were capped at level 300/400/n00 and there were several more tiers of items and mobs but the game was at core still esoma but faster, there would almost certainly be more active players than there currently is. Plus it would have taken way less effort than the whole trying-to-redesign-the-game route. I'm not sure anyone really wanted 'game devs' with their Soma and the sheer amount of people who want to go back to a point before most of the changes were made would seem to back that up.

As for fixing stat gains, people have been trying to overcomplicate that for years now too. All it needs is the calc changing back to something much lower at 255 and a bunch of levels adding so focused and balanced chars can both push through the huge slow down. Nothing else really works without screwing some chars over in some way.

None of this is new. I agree with pretty much everything you said Mitchy but I do think it's important to note that people have been saying the exact same stuff for 3 years now, the only people who can do anything about it have never cared or listened. Is that going to change now?

I hear you in terms of whose going to listen now, but Dan the other night in discord gave his most convincing line yet about the community giving their help to the server.

This for me is exactly what most of us have been saying repeatedly for years now. When soma overnight just stopped being soma for most players, when you suddenly overnight change how a game like soma is then you automatically push the players away from a game they have come to love.

It was no wonder so many of our Korean players left at the this time, in the last 2 years I’ve probably played soma about 5 months in total, because to me it is no longer soma.

To progress in soma no matter how much time you have to play per day, per week, you only had to leave town and continue your soma journey. Through level your character, farming, questing you could gain the items you would need to progress through drops. Drops that you could use, trade with, once the ability to progress from drops you literally ripped the soul out of soma (apologies if this offends our gm’s I’m just being honest)

If you seriously want to see this great game will all love and want to make it great once more, then bring back its soul, then the players will return to continue there soma journeys.

They should just be buying that gear instead, huh?

The anvil success rate only really became a major annoyance when the base gear and upgrades became beyond tedious to get. It was always annoying to lose stuff but at least you could get it back without months of pointless grinding. Or dozens of bots. I guess you know about that too.

Everyone has their own opinion about how to fix the upgrading aspect, personally I always felt ghost upgrades were the least worst way to go. It has a lot of economic benefits which would help other aspects of the game. Really though, having items drop and be common enough that they trade for a reasonable amount of sd/mf solves most of the anvil-eating-everything problems.

I'll try and do a post this afternoon and summarise some of the points made and then add my own and see how it lands for people, making it as easy as possible for the GM's and any helpers. I'll try and keep my own comments clearly separate though either way.

Me and Mitchy(tyrese) did a post in the suggestions forum. Just focussing on the short term which amount to a lot of peoples thoughts in this thread, we think.

Everyone's got ideas of the longer term stuff including me but its really down to the GM's giving us the vision of where things were headed and what they want(ed) to do and what they are open too. So for now, please take a looksy at - https://myth-of-soma.com/Forum/Thread.asp?ID=48557&title=QoL+changes&Page=1

As MickyC pointed out some type of gm presence would be great, but this comes down to trust. As iSylver has been burnt in past regarding his trust, i understand how hard it is to try again.

As for what tweaks, Qol changes that could benefit all. I would suggest breaking down all the walls that slowdown the progression that puts players off from logging on to continue there soma journeys.

Maybe it would be better to have someone who is effectively an "Events Master" rather than a GM, Somebody who could summons mobs for simple invasions and also run existing programmed events and propose new events to the GMs for their consideration. These EMs would have no other GM powers AT ALL so the possibility of corruption would be minimised.

They could also keep a general watching eye on the game and report any perceived issues directly to the GMs, Maybe give them the invisibility skill and the ability to teleport around all of the maps to assist with this?

Whoever fills these roles should be anonymous and given a gm style suit and a gm chosen character name. This would prevent any backlash against individuals who are helping out by fulfilling these new roles.

I suggest Foxtrck all day long

Thank you for the vote but I wouldn’t do it without the likes of mickyc and Raven, whom can offer as much, if not more than me :)

It’s a shame the most respected members of the community have given up the ghost. Considering those people could’ve been the breath of fresh air soma very much needs.
